So, the bf arrived home from work on friday with the new 360.

First off- it is only *slightly* less noisy than the original. It has a higher pitched whine.

It is a lot lighter, but this is offset by the fact that the power supply is a BRICK.

The power supply made lines run up and down the screen when it was near it, you have to keep it at a fair distance away.

The on/off buttons on the controllers & the remote are here, and work. Hooray!

If you can, go for the deluxe edition so you get the wireless controllers, (they are sweet) and the HD. It is worth the extra money.

The new controllers are almost like a cross between the original ones and the S type. They are more comfortable imo.

They only old games it would play for us were Halo & Halo 2, (surprise surprise), this will probably change when they add the support stuff to the site on the 22nd.

Halo & Halo 2 looked AMAZING. The difference in sharpness and clarity from the anti-aliasing are immediately noticeable. Game play was also zippier and cleaner, but that is only the opinion of a non-gamer, so you'll have to wait for someone elses opinion to get the low down.

pics: (excuse my shíte camera phone)

Microsoft Ireland employees had the option to buy them early (pre release), did they not?

are ye playing it on a "normal" tv or a hdtv?
i was under the impression that the graphics wont be all that more impressive on a regular t.v than the old xbox, that ye really need a hdtv to see any real difference.

No , your wrong. In actual fact a HD tv wont make much more of a difference than on a Standard def. tv so The price is hardly worth it. Youl definitley notice the impeoved graphics even on an SDTV

I disagree here, try playing a game on a PC at a resolution of 800x600 then play the same game at a resolution of 1024x768, then tell me the graphics aren't improved greatly on the higher resolution.

Yeah but isn't there a limit to how sharp your game graphics will get?
Are we being restricted by our current non-HD TV's or do they in fact show what the console is capable of?

If the reviews are anything to go by, HD makes a huge difference. And it certainly seems damn nice in the demo pods set up in shops. I haven't tried playing the same game on two different displays to see for myself but I imagine it is a major improvement.

It's not so much that you're restricted using a standard TV with a 360, more so that your visual experience will be impaired. All 360 games are optimised for HD output, it's teh 360 itself that compensates and squashes the image if you're not connected to Hi-Def output.
