Friday evening, I went for a few drinks after work. Left the scooter in the underground car park in work so it was completly safe. Planned to go back the next day and collect it.

Problem is I've lost the ignition keys and the padlock key which I use on the chain.

Dealer is closed till Tuesday so anyone know what it will cost to replace the ignition keys? I'm sure this must have happened to someone before.

Also, whats the best way for me to break this chain? It cost €40 and is heavy duty so I know it's going to be difficult.

:( This is why it's essential to make sure you have one, or preferably two, spare keys when you buy a bike... use the spares and keep the original safe, so if you ever need to get a copy made, it's a copy of the original rather than a copy of a copy. Same goes for locks, chains etc.

Angle grinder will go through the chain, steering locks are easy to defeat. With a new bike you should get a key code which can be used to cut new keys if you lose all the original ones. If you don't have that then you're looking at a new ignition barrel. I won't say any more but any scummer already knows how to break any steering/ignition lock with ease, which is why you can never rely on that alone for security.

I once had to hotwire my own bike to get home, had the keys but the ignition switch was worn out!

In Cavan there was a great fire / Judge McCarthy was sent to inquire / It would be a shame / If the nuns were to blame / So it had to be caused by a wire.

Took a stroll out to Blackrock and managed to find the key to the chain but not my ignition keys.
Rang the dealer on the mobile and told him I needed the a new ignition key, a key for the seat which is the same as the igntion key. I also needed a key for the pannier box at the back.
I have keys for the disk lock and chain so only thing securing it will be the steering lock. I'm no scummer though and I certainly wouldn't have a clue how to break a steering lock.

Was quoted €60 to get the scooter picked up in the workshop van. Then they'd take out the ignition out and take it to some specialist in town to get a new key. The pannier would have to be broken into and a new lock fitted.

Thats two hours labour and would cost me €200 in total. Will never be so stupid again.
Am definitly going to follow your advice ninga900 and keep spares in future
