How did C4 win the rights to the Lord Of The Rings triology?

It seems strange that the biggest movie franchise is been shown on C4 on a Sunday November night when I thought it would have popped up on Christmas day schedules on the BBC or RTE

    They bid. The end.

C4 having the rights to show movies rarely influences the rights of other stations to show them (especially RTE). All the other stations have to do is pay up.

who is to say it wont turn up on RTÉ

Channel 4 buy the rights for the UK, RTÉ buy the rights for the RoI

What's wrong with Channed 4? At least they show stuff in the correct aspect ratio.

Yes but they must have some deal done for LOTR as the Fellowship was shown Easter weekend and Two Towers last weekend, one would have expected a longer time span. Fair play to them all the same

that's true. it is a hard job to watch a movie on terrestrial with the ad breaks but when a terrestrial channel at least makes the effort it makes it that little bit more bearable

They didn't show LOTR:TTT in the correct aspect ratio as far as I can tell.
