    Hi,

as the title says, just wondering how complicated it is to replace the processor in a PC, would i have to wipe the machine ? or reconfigure the OS. Thinking of buying a PC that is great except for the processor. ALso will there be any memory conflicts or anything like that.

    Thanks for any advice

You need to know what the mianboard supports before buying.
For instance there are 4 main processor types. Amd have 2 Intel have 2.
You would need to be sure the pc you buy can support a faster cpu.

There are tonnes of memory issues, so best to ask what is the pc you buying?
Then people could take it from there.

ie buying a pentium 3 pc and planning on putting a pentium 4 cpu in it isnt going to happen.

And to answer the question, yes its easy top put them in but its also easy to wreck the pc doing it.

No. That's a socket A motherboard. AMD64 uses socket 939 (or socket 754 for the really old ones).
The memory is most likely the same, as Athlon64's are still using PC3200 DDR.

You'll need to change the motherboard as well and the processor and heat sink. XP2800 still isnt a bad processor :)

As for the PC - it's an ok deal. Make sure the operating system is genuine.
