    Any suggestions for car less than 4k? Preferably less than 3 k actually? Want something with abit of poke that looks ok as well as being reliable is that too much to ask for?

    Have a look back along... there are threads related to buying a car for 2k and 6k. Whatever was suggested in those holds true for this query, with obvious adjustments to age and mileage.

    Although there are "book" prices for cars, when you reach this sort of money you just need to do a lot of shopping around. You can be ripped off as quickly as you can find a real gem.

    Avoid the French and Italians, and pay more attention to the mileage and condition than to the year and you probably will do ok. If you are looking at something in the B&S be preparded to travel 40 miles only to discover the car described as being "immaculate" is far from it.
