This is really for people that went over last year, marq, oscar etc etc

I was thinking of trying to get over for a week this year.

I was wondering if you could recomend some tournaments to play NLHE around the $500 mark and maybe some rough guides on how much of budget you would need to enjoy a decent week of poker

I'd say you'd need to go for longer than a week, maybe two. With the flights and time differences etc. you won't really be fully with it for a couple of days, so a week wouldn't really be very long.

The amount of money to bring depends on a lot of things, but mainly how much you are willing to lose. There are a load of great tourneys around the $500 mark, my favourite was the daily Bellagio $500FO which starts at 2pm every day, it's $1k on Fridays and Saturdays.

Overall I'd say bring around $3k. Play the low limit cash games (these are extremely soft, it's very hard to lose in them) and you should be able to build up some money to have a shot at the tournaments.

I'm goin in march and that little plan sounds nice some low limit cash then a couple of tourneys. when you say low limit what are we talkin. low limit as in limit or No limit. and low as in 1-2 2-4 3-6.

Also i'm staying in the MGM whats the scene like there and do they have a nice pool......;) I need too leave her somewhere nice while i play away

Im going for the WSOP next year. Whether I get to play it is another thing! Only two of us going so far, but I'm sure we'll meet up with all the other Irish over there!

Planning on going to US for two weeks. 3 days in NY then the rest in Vegas.

Think I'll be sticking to tourneys around the $100 mark, and probably a few satelittes and super sats.

It's tough to find decent tournies for $100 in vegas. Palms hold a few around $200.. Stay clear of the Aladdin tournies.. the reg is close to 45% (hidden reg in the topups)

Bellagio hold a few sats for their 500 & 1000 games..

Is anyone here going to play other WSOP events rather then spend a lot of energy trying to get into the main event next year?

Because they use the same chips for all WSOP events, your starting stack depends on the buy in. So for the 10K main event, you get 10k chips... for the 2k event you get 2,000 chips. This may be done to eliminate palming chips into other events, but the blind levels don't change accordingly. I entered the 2K event and felt shortstacked with 1800 after 1 hr of play. I don't think I will play other WSOP events. I'd love to if I had the bankroll, but I think there are better tournaments in Vegas to be found.

They couldn't have $1500 starting chips with blinds 25-25 in a NLHE event could they?

I played in that one :D Doubled up early enough with QQ then my AK ran into A3 on an AK3 flop

The $1000 event you get 1000 chips.

These events you effectively get one decent sized pot and you are at a huge advantage. Because of the slow structures there is a lot more play later on if you can get there.

I will in Vegas from 20th July until the end of the main event :D

Antes Up willl be covering it again - hopefully there will be plenty of you to report on.

Not when the turn brings a third three. I think the only wsop event I'll defo be playing Nicky is the $2000 NL Hold em shootout. I'll try and win a ticket for the main event too, but mainly I'll be playing in the other cardrooms. The Rio is a dump.

I thought it was something like that, so annoying and what a time to take a BB like that

I may still play a $1500 limit holdem event and then decide if I want to play any more of them. Since the cash games are so soft I think like you said you're better off playing those and using the money fund the buy ins for the better non WSOP evnts like at the Belaggio.

Just wondering where the majority of people heading over next year are staying?

I'm trying to organise flights, accomodation etc for 4 of us by January to get them cheaper.

Heading over to NY on 21st July, then flying to Vegas on the 24th July - 4th August. Then back to NY for 1 night then back to Dublin. Best deal I can find so far for a hotel on the strip is the Luxor (the pyramid) for about €30 per night. Anyone stayed here before?

I don't mind paying a bit extra to stay where the main Irish contingent are gonna be. Wanna be right where the party's at!

The Gold Kip is cheap and decent. 7 months is a long time in poker so Im making no plans yet.

The Luxor is nice but is a bit further away - stick to the gold coast - It is right beside the Rio and is cheap and cheerful. It is also across the road from the Palms where some of the better tournaments were on during the WSOP
