how much is the "Nvidia 7800GTX 512MB GDDR3,PCI-Express," going to set u back :|
that cpu is probably going to bottleneck a gfx card like that
min 2gigs of ram i asume?

you could go for a dual core opteron either, or forget dual core for the moment and go with a fast single core, of course this depends what you're gonna be doing with the machine

i'd just go for the 256mb 7800gtx. €750 is alot for a card.

agree with that for a little I got caught up in the madness of wanting to be totally top of the pile when it came to graphics caards and spent a good bit looking for a 512meg gtx, but, I finally copped on and went with the readily available (and still mighty) 256 meg...here there selling for anything from 700 -to over 800 euros...no way, thats a total rip off , don't care how amazing it is

i am interested in a certain ammount of future proofing.

its a big hit now to spend the 750 but in the long run i might be happy. or is the 512 just a bit of a scam really?

No, the 512 version is faster then the 256, and uses better ram. Best graphics card on the plannet right now. And they aren't hard to come across either.

The 3800+ is just two 3200+ 's....which would bottleneck the graphics card i'd imagine. Get the single core 4000+ for now. Dual core is being hyped, dont buy into it. It's another year or two away for mainstream PCs...

    Get a better power supply.

I have that Thermaltake PSU, rails are rock solid..cable sleeved, TONS of connectors.

BUT..i'd hold off, Thermaltake have a new 680W coming soon, it's 52A on the 12V rails and changed some of the connectors:

agree with jammer on the processor, unless you really feel you're gonna be multitasking all the time get a nice fast single core(like I did) for a third of the price of the top end dual core.
As for the geforce512, I don't think its a scam( I was considering it seriously) but I do think it'll be a short lived interlude bridging current gen and whatever nvidia's gonna release when m2 hits( and they will).
I'm sure its bloody powerful tho, and with 512 on board I can't see many games that are gonna seriously tax it for a good long while.
all that said, I didn't feel like paying 750 euros for one.
