Dave lost, but was the stronger player IMO throughout most of the game. He had a 3:1 chip lead when Mike pushed on the button. Dave called with AQs, Mike had A5. Mike made a str8 on the turn. He was very embarrsed by the move he said!

The match was a speed heads up game and the blinds got quite big. Dave had 1600, Mike had 2400. With blinds at 150-300, Dave limped on the button with AT looking for a raise,. Mike raised to 700 and Dave pushed. Mike called with AK.

Yeah I didn't really think they'd say yes, Doyle turned me down anyway and then Mike said he'd play one so I thought fcuk it, I have a bit of money in my account and it would be cool to beat him. We started with 2k chips each and I got up to 3k without really showing a hand. Then with antes at 100 200 he went all in on the button, I called with AQ and his A5 turned a straight! So we were back to evens and the blinds were up to 150 300. He won one or two pots and took the chip lead slightly with about 2400 to my 1600. The antes were huge so when I found A10 I kind of decided I was going with it. I limped from the sb anticipating his raise. He made it 700 total to go which he'd done a couple of times and folded to re raises, and I went all in. He had AK...

Was good craic anyway and he was a really sound guy. I'll give it a go again next week if I can build the bankroll back up!

    Unlucky Dave.
Challenge Him to a re-match live here in Ireland. Let Him bring Texas Dolly and Todd. I'll sponsor Yourself, Stephen McClean, and Derek the D to a head to head team tournament.
    Go for it.

I'm surprised that even you would risk such a large amount of money (or at least, proportion of bankroll) for the chance of less than 100% return, simply because "it would be cool to beat him."

What do you mean by the chance of less than a 100% return?

Yeah I'm not the smartest at bankroll management Marq. Fcuk it, it was good experience and I enjoyed it, tis only money!

That's a great idea Fintan but I'd say it might cost quite alot to drag Doyle away from whatever promotional commitments he already has lined up! He didn't seem too interested in playing me online anyway, he just typed in 'not tonight lol'.

Your probably right. Mind you many of them top American players love the idea of coming to Ireland for a well run event.
I spoke with Dutch Boyd at the wsop about the crew playing a team event here in Ireland, He was all over it and said He get Scott Fischman on board. The journey would be alot easier on the likes of these young lads.
Anyway I'm going to organize it, it might take a year or 18 months, but feck it I love the idea.

Sounds like a great idea Fintan, I'd love to give it a shot. Count me in anyway! Dutch Boyd has a pretty good blog, www.dutchboyd.com , I think you can contact him through there anyway.

You gotta pay the registration fee to play on top of the 1k buy-in.
If you win you get 2k.

Yeah well it's the way all heads up matches are. I don't think it being less than a hundred per cent return is a reason not to play heads up matches; bear in mind you only have to beat one player.

I heard this too. Its also good if you mention its for charity! We managed to get the Hendon Mob over for a charity tournament in lowly Griffith College, who's poker society consisted of me, Shane (de deraco),nic, and a handful of other hopeless wanabees.... all it took was a phone call! They also threw money into the prize fund and donated loads of prizes (t-shirts, caps etc)

Had you asked Mike to play for 200 he probably would have obliged!

I would be wary of any business dealings with Dutch Boyd, he is generally regarded with suspicion by the US poker scene because of his involvement with Pokerspot.

Yea I heard there was money invested in Dutch and one two others for on line site that never materialised. That along with Dutch's medical history would make most weary. However I thought the guy was sound, and have no problem making arrangements with the man regardless of what has being told to me.

And a few NL Hold Em freezeouts for say €200, €500 and €1000 entry. Half of Scandanavia and the UK would turn up. A tournament a day in different locations, Dublin, Cavan, Galway with coaches to ferry the players about.

Bob Stupak, ..........said his longtime friend indeed was not a sophisticated man."He did not understand much about anything other than poker," Stupak, himself a world-class poker player, said."For example, in 1980, Stu got invited to Ireland to play in a poker tournament but did not have a passport. He went to get one and was told it would take a while to process. Stu asked if there was a way to get it quicker, and the clerk said for 'a few extra dollars' it could be ready in a couple of days."The clerk was referring to an additional processing fee for a rush job, but, said Stupak, "Stu looked to his right, then to his left and then tried to slip the guy $300. That's what Stu thought the guy meant by a few extra dollars.
Anyone know if Stu Ungar ever played in Ireland?
