I'd like to ask people here!

    Please view poll above!

Are people with religious/spiritual faith primitive? 31 votes

Yes, how can they believe in some invisible god when science has obtained so much knowledge?
    0% 0 votes
    No, that's offensive.

Relax, qz. It took some time to write the options down.

Options one and three seem very similiar.

I guess so. So how come a moderator calls me a retard? if I had called you a retard you would have banned me.

He wouldn't have been able to ban you on this forum. And he got banned for it.

you know what really pisses me off?

the fact that the catholic church is in charge of 95% of our primary schools, and it was proven in the ferns report that the catholic hierarchy was responsible for covering up child abuse

I dont agree with any of them. Personally I'm not religious but I dont frown on others for being religious as long as they dont try impose their beliefs on me.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,437 ✭✭✭Crucifix

I think the options are too black and white. Everyone's faith is their own business, but I find it quite irritating when people get fanatical about it.

That's irrelevant. But thanks for sharing. You can't blame horrible(they were!) actions like these on God. The perpetrators chose what they did themselves.

Crucifix, I know the options are narrow, but that is to create contrast. Perhaps it's a bad attempt, but I made a courageous attempt.

So why post a poll? Why not just tell people what they should believe?

I'm not sure I understand; why do you want to create contrast?

No I'm not, I'm just debunking irrelevancy. If I can put it that way.

Crucifix, so that people can say one thing or the other thing.
What do you think, should there have been be more poll options? I'm open for other thoughts.

Why do you call me that? I'm not a racist. That word doesn't even belong in this thread. Why attack me like that?

No, if you wanted to be taken seriously (well, as seriously as anyone creating a vs thread about religion can be taken), you should have forgotten the poll, and at least tried to put some kind of a point across in the original post.

I rue the day polls were re-enabled in AH. Rue it, I do.

Yes. Personally, I feel I didn't fall into any of the catagories given. I think the general way of things is to give your two extremes, a midpoint between the two, and an atari jaguar (I don't care option).

and relevant to what? your stupid little poll? ...

Darwinisim (Solid evidence and facts) vs Genesis (Book written 2000+ years ago by theives and villans). Yes I would think that most religious people are quite primitive.

Now this is your decision. If none of the poll options suit you, you're free to add your opinion.

First of all Pighead reckons this thread should be in the Religion/Spirituality forum. However since they'vetaken my Mod Priveliges away from me i'm gonna have to let it slide.

Secondly could you please put up the following poll option:

Whilst Pighead thinks the whole idea of a God looking at us from above is a lovely one and how great it must be to have strong faith/beliefs,he tends to stray over to the non believing side of the fence on this issue.Youth is on his side however and his opinion will most likely change as he gets older and greyer
    Thanks Van,You're the Man.

Well, it's not science vs. Christianity alone.

Personally I don't think they're small minded. In fact, you could say a lot of atheists are small minded as they won't humour the possibility of a god. I'm not saying that there is any higher power or that there is not but I think anyone who isn't at least open to both ideas is being small minded.

It's difficult to tell on a forum. You may call me Var.

What does primitive mean in the context of your poll, Vangelis?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 691 ✭✭✭Ajnag

Poll: Are people with religious/spiritual faith primitive?
Their not bloody primative when it comes to forcing their views on others, their not primitive when it comes to organising big campaings to push their crap and they are not bloody primitive when it comes to an understanding of power.

Intelligent design, Jihad and condomless sex for aid's campaings being the glittering highlights of modern theology

Did your religion predict the interwab? Pron on demand? And kittencake?

    DID IT?!? HUH?

DID JESUS/MOSEs/MOHOMMAD CALL UP THE HOLY BROWSER AND FAP'D THE BLESSED VIRGINS OF THE INTERWAB?

God is sooooo not l33t.... Probably is still using a wang.

    simu wrote:

Religiousness being primitive would to me mean that some individuals are prone to believe in something "higher" because they are not as well-evolved as those who don't believe in anything but put their faith in what science tells of the Universe, evolution, logical thinking, rationalism. If that is at all true. It's a suggestion only.

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 3,290 ✭✭✭TomTom

ok to try be constructive, you need to change your poll so people with opinions other than religion is stupid or people who don't want to come off as gung ho religious people have an option to vote.
I don't think its primitive. I don't attend church but i certainly believe in god. You can have your faith but not believe in the catholic church in my opinion. I don't consider myself primitive in anyway. I live in a city with all mod cons in my apartment and i'm a network engineer. I believe in equal rights and a persons right to choose.

What has technological prediction to do with this thread? Please explain. :)
God tells us through the Bible that Mankind will do greater things than Jesus did during his time. Perhaps that could be technology? :) Just a thought, just a thought.

As far as I'm concerned, Jihad is something that worries many, not just Christians(and we are not only speaking of Christians in this thread, but all kinds of believers). Not all Christians support ID, certainly not me. :)

And as far as I know, condomless sex is a huge issue in the Catholic church. I have a different experience with the Protestant church. ;)

People who don't believe in religion are more evolved? That makes no sense. Evolution takes place over many millenia whereas most if not all Europeans believed in some God until a few centuries ago.

Your poll seems a bit loaded alright! Don't know how to edit it. But, additional options could include: "I'm an atheist (thank God:D )", "I'm an agnostic, and don't know which religion to believe in"

For something that stuttered into life with a lot of negative posts at the beginning you've certainly invoked the boards.ie motto "Now, ye're talking" which is the whole purpose of this site. Good talk is good, bad talk is good, but no talk is bad!!

Me, I'm an agnostic, so won't be voting in your poll as it exists.

I assume I'll have to create a new thread with a better poll. Or someone a bit more creative than me could do it. Please?
