    Folks,

How does everybody place a border around their photographs?
I general tend to do this and was thinking that we should compare notes and see what the easiest and most effective way to do this is.

I used to just increase the canvas size by about 110% 120% of its original size.

I'm thinking about having a little "sub border" - only a couple of pixels (say black), then going back to the white again. I'll try to get a sample now.

I usually Make a Black or White boarder of 100Px with a White or Black boarder of 1px around the picture.

I increase the canvas size to about 102%.

I'm not big on borders (what a witty pun =| ). Usually go for black, but sometimes white.

i find it better to add a set amount of pixels. If you increase it by percentage the side borders will probably end up a bit bigger than the top and bottom because of the shape of the picture.

Sometimes that suits, most of the time it doesn't though.
I guess for each photo, you must take the time to create the border to suit the individual image?

I change the size of the canvas, usually to 7200x10800. That way i have my huge source file and i can make any size prints i want.

i change the canvas size by 1 or 2cm. depending on the picture. I don't always do borders though, only sometimes.

    I think so. Sometimes that border = 0px ;)

Increase the Canvas Size by the a unit of the size you are printing.

I would normally set my crop tool to 5.5 x 3.5 inches.

maybe add a 5px stroke around the image.

Then increase the canvas size to 6 x 4 inches.

This all depends on the printer being able to print the image SQUARE.

5 times out of ten they wont!

I normally just add a stroke on the inside of the image...
