I'm in the process of looking for a decent laptop. I've been using my mates one for the past day or so and it's really grown on me.

I would like help choosing a laptop for roughly €1000:

I would not be using it for games, maybe the odd one, but I'm not looking for a desktop replacement.

The main uses would be for web surfing, typing assignments, watching DVDs and using Photoshop CS (I'm big into photography).

    The following criteria are essential:
    It has to be silent,
it must have very long battery life,
a screen size of between 12-15 inches with preferably 85htz refresh rate
and it has to be light. It would also have to start-up quickly.

The following would be preferable, but not essential:
A built in CF card reader
    Wireless internet
A good few usb 2.0 ports
    Good after-sales support
A backlit keyboard would be nice
Finance options from the seller would be nice, so I could buy now and pay over 12 months.

The bottom line is, I need a light, long lasting student laptop which will last a while.

    Any suggestions?
