hi: I got my nose broken a few years ago. It's not too bad but breathing through one of my nostrils is less efficient as a consequence. I would like to get it sorted. This probably involves having it rebroken and reset? Has anybody had this done. Can anybody recommend a specialist?

    Moved to medicine.

Apologies Indy if this isn't the right place. I can't think of a better one though, and AH is definitely not where it should be! :)

Oh and skeegan, if you tell people where you are it would help a lot. No point in being recommended a doctor in Galway if you live in Bray and all that.

I had the exact thing done myself about a month ago.
Are you going private or public?
I went to doc first and got referred to specialist. It took 2 years
The operation is called a septoplasty (think thats how it is spelt)
tbh, my breathing isnt that much better after!!!

I am in Dublin btw. PM me if you need more info

The specialist you are looking for is called ENT - Ear Nose Throat. Unfortunately, with the health service as it is, you have lengthy waits for procedures which are not urgent.

The NTPF should make a dent into that though. You need a GP referral letter to be seen by an ENT surgeon.

There are many floating around and since it is a relatively simple procedure, its not needed to recommend someone who would ordinarily have a special interest.

I broke my nose years ago, one side partially blocked, got it fixed so I could breathe evenly. Breathing is ok, and I don't get blocked noses as often. However once I broke it I started having sinus problems, and the hope was that clearing the nose would help. It didn't really. Diet and other factors made a bigger difference to that. TBH.
