I recently got a new HD for my Dell pc because the old one had gone to ****e.

Now, foolishly, when I originally got my Dell pc, it was a half arsed job but I didnt pursue it fully. Half the stuff inside wasn't even connected. I rang dell to complain but they just basically told me how to hook it up myself which I had already done. It was christmas so I said fcuk it, its working now thats all that matters.

A short while ago, maybe a month or two, my Hard Drive started acting wierd, making really loud grinding noises when in use. So I got a new one, brand new. From the second I installed it, that also started making the odd grinding noise and games can get a bit jumpy and slow during these periods.

Now, several moments ago, the new hard drive, after a weeks of perfect use, just won't boot. It gets to the black WinXP screen but after that nothing happens.

I've put in the old one and its working, albeit a lot of noises.

I also have odd problems like playback from the DVD drive being really poor at times and the like.

I have only a month left on my warranty, am I entitled to ring dell and ask them to take it away? I'm just so pissed I didn't mention it to them sooner.

just don't tell them you have been in there. make sure you put the or keep the old drive in it and then contact them. They even suspect you've been inside they have the excuse to void your warranty...

Well usual Dell **** on the phone. It's definately not hardware, its software, yadda yadda yadda.....

Interesting fact though: The girl on the phone openly said opening you PC is definately not recommended but does not void the warranty. I was surprised to hear that I have to say.
