We're starting a home game this saturday with 6/7 players and we would like it to go on for about 3 hours as 1/2 the crew are absolute beginners and want to go for a few pints after it. Does anyone have any ideas on the structure we should use?

    Thanks

    Howabout...

    2000 in chips starting out.
    Builds Time
    25/50 25 mins
    50/100 15 mins.
    100/200 15 mins.
    200/400 15 mins

Maybe a double chance structure or 1 rebuy or topup or freeze out.

I think the blinds should go up after 30 minutes... if it's 15 min it will be over to soon,,, and he wants the game to go on for over 3 hours...

Just to let ya know when we play on thursdays in my mates there is about 5 of use, and the way we do it is everyone antes an amount at the start and the ante amount goes up each time a player goes out.

I'd half the buy in, 15 minutes blinds and play 2 games.
If not then the first person out(who will probably be one of the beginners) is just going to have to sit and wait while you finish. They'll hate the game and push everyone to go for pints asap.
Also two games means the better players(you) have a better chance at taking the money.

2 games seems like a good idea so they can get the hang of it/catch the bug for the first few sessions. 1000 chips 10/20 start and 15 minute levels?

Here's the structure we play in our home game. Usually lasts about 2.5 to 3 hours. For a home-game we've found a rebuy tournament works better than a freeze-out. Some people play more for social reasons and don't want to spend too much while others want to gamble it up a bit more. A rebuy tournament with a relatively low buy-in caters for both.

$1000 starting chips, unlimited rebuys ($1000) for first hour, $1500 add-on at end of first hour. All 20 minute levels (except for heads-up when it switches to 10-minute levels).

    25/50
    50/100
    75/150

    -- End of rebuys + add-on --

    100/200
    150/300
    200/400

    300/600
    400/800
    500/1000
