I gave a pint of blood on Monday. I went to the gym yesterday and tried to train. But I found myself tiring very quickly. I assume this is due to my lack of blood. Does anyone know who long it will take for my bosty to replace the pint

Also a donor and AFAIK they say wait at least 24 hours before any sort of intensive excercise. This probably varies depending on your metabolism, diet etc. I can't imagine your body replacing 3/4 of a pint of blood in a day or two though...

What about training before giving blood. I do a bit of running and was wondering could i run and give blood a couple of hours after?

    Q. How long does it take for my body to replace the donation?
    A. Your body will replace the liquid part of the donation within 24 hours. Red cells usually need at least 8 weeks for complete replacement.

8 weeks, wow. I did google this, and one guy said 40 days, I thought he was taking the piss.

Giving blood a couple of hours after training shouldn't be too much of an issue, but I would recommend toning it down a notch for that session. If you overdo it, your body may have trouble repairing/building itself with the lowered blood level.

Upping your iron intake before giving blood and the next day may help too*

    *Feel free to correct me

No good unless you are very deficient and the timeframe for doing so will not work either unfortunately.

Your body normally has substantial stores of iron in the gut and unless you have a poor diet or (if female) have consistent heavy periods - it is unusual to be deficient.

Haemoglobin takes that long to replace itself because the stimulus for that is a shortage of oxygen to the tissues - since the actual amount lost is very small (a pint is pittance tbh), the replacement of the lost haemoglobin is also very slow.
