Sarcasm is so rife these days, it almost goes unnoticed. But, as pretty boy Rooney found out, when he was sent off for clapping referee Kim Milton Nielsen who had just booked him, not everyone is a fan. Pighead would love a bit of Kim Milton Nielsens power."OI,Ruggie Bear,Red card for you buddy.thats the 3rd time you've used crap sarcasm today. You're out of here" The trick is to use sarcasm intelligently, and sparingly.

They say sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. Yeah, right. "They" are wrong or maybe "they"were being sarcastic when "they"said that.Sarcasm when used correctly can show the user to have lightning fast wit and a high level of intelligence. Most of the sarcasm used around here is LAZY SARCASM. it says something is wrong but doesn't bother saying what.
Example of Bad Sarcasm."Yeah nice post Pighead. "
Example of Good Sarcasm:"Yeah sure Pighead,of course you can't make love to Miss Piggy all night and make her scream like a banshee"

Sarcasm has its place but c'mon lads don't overuse it. It's like putting salt in mushroom soup,a little improves the taste no end while too much will have you retching and getting sick all over your shoes.

You're right. What passes for sarcasm/'humour' on this site is ridiculous.

However, your example of good sarcasm is also fairly pathetic...

On balance though, you're still right.

Alright NoelRock(6/10 for username)you want an example of good sarcasm?Pigheads gonna hand you over to the King of sarcasm Basil the floor is yours
Basil Fawlty, when Mrs Richards complains about the view of Torquay: "What did you expect to see out of a Torquay hotel bedroom window? Sydney Opera House perhaps? The Hanging Gardens of Babylon? Herds of wildebeest sweeping majestically...?"

Now NoelRock hope you're happier with that.Pigheads got a horrible feeling that this thread is backfiring and is going to be full of exactly the type of sarcasm hes rallying against.

A sarcasm detector? that's real useful.

There's no point in putting Pighead on my ignore list when people just go and quote him.
You posted the first reply! Who the hell do we think you were replying to?

Fair enough Sinecurea, just a matter of etiquette on my part, sorry.

Pighead - much better example, I'm with you now. (and, yeah, you're gonna see at least 100 examples of the sarcasm that you loathe on this thread). Furthermore, 6/10? Not bad for my real name.

Jeekers sinecura(3/10 for username)Pigheads surprised at you.Opening up with a "Thanks NoelRock and following it with a  .Thats exactly what i'm talking about.A classic case of crap sarcasm.Pigheads looking for sarcasm that makes him laugh and roll around the floor not the sneaky snidey types that appear as not-so-thinly veiled insults.Shame on sinecura.

If you're using  to denote the fact you're being sarcastic you're doing it wrong. Besides, its only fun if your victim isn't sure whether you're being sarcastic or not.

Good afternoon magpie(7/10,its got a certain je ne sais quoi quality).Pigheads had that roll eyes smiley thrown at him more times than he can remember. Its a lazy little fcuker of a smiley which doesnt convey the feelings the posters trying to show.First off its smiling whilst throwing his eyes up to heaven implying "Oh you cheeky cheeky man Pighead, you're a scamp aren't you".However i'm pretty sure the poster wants to send a message of "shut the **** up pighead you're so full of **** its unbelievable and if i knew you i'd break your horrible little bones".I think a new smileys in order

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 3,643 ✭✭✭magpie

I agree with Pighead on this. In my view sarcasm should be one of those larvae that burrows into your chest cavity and lays its eggs in your very heart. Unfortunately it has become more of a Luftwaffe-esque style means of carpet bombing every post that isn't to the liking of others.

Ah Mossy Monk(1/10-good alliteration but nonsensical)you're sick of moany weekly outbursts are you?.Well why did you open the thread wait for it to load, type a reply(including a fake yawn no less!)and check bvack to see if anybody had replyed to you(you did didnt you,you cheeky scamp)
And by the way Beruthial(6/10,its an anagram of the burial which is quite groovy)this is not a crusade to end sarcasm, this is a crusade to end crap sarcasm.Sarcasm can be useful and appropriate to use in the forums and it can serve a purpose. It may be used to lighten the mood or cut someone to the quick. It might be charming and witty or brutally honest. Some of the people here have developed it to an art form. Truth and honesty should sometimes be harsh,no need for fluffy rabbits and sunny meadows all the time

once again pighead i wholeheartedly agree with you.... nothing worse than sarcasm over used, well that and bad sarcasm. Sarcasm is best kept for face to face interractions methinks also

Sarcasm is the mortar that binds the bricks of boards.ie together, remove it and the whole things comes tumbling down. Granted, poor sarcasm can weaken parts of the structure and cause a few bricks to collapse, horrifically crushing innocent passers by, but sometimes that's a good thing.
