Graphic Card Drivers

Haven't updated my Graphics Card's drivers in a while. My card is a Nvidia GeForce4 440 GO 64Mb. I went to update with the latest drivers 81.94 (Filename: 81.94_forceware_winxp2k_international) but got the following error message when trying to install the drivers:

"The Nvidia Setup program could not locate any drivers that are compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit"

According to DXDIAG the last drivers I Installed was version 6.14.0010.7090.

Would anybody have any idea how to update my drivers?

if you look at the revisions you shoud be able to pick out the latest version of the driver that supports your card.

I had to do the same thing with a TNT, ended up trying about 4 different drivers until I found the latest one that works.

    try some from here:

    http://www.nvidia.com/object/winxp-2k_archive.html

and maybe go back in 6 month increments?

there may be a better way of doing this, but I cant be arsed figuring it out!

[edit] feck, just realised this is on the laptops forum. there are resources out there specifically for go chipset but it can be messy to get them to work. Your first port of call is of course the manufacurer of your laptop where mobilty drivers are concerned.[/edit]

Thanks for the advice, got the 'latest' drivers from the manufacturers website, the drivers are dated from march tho, and some games are still telling me to update my drivers.

Tried a few from some of the nvidia archives but same problems, ah well just have to wait until Compaq get up of their arses and release some updates.

    Thanks again

    what games are you playing?

TBH its more likely to be a limitation of the card/chip (such as no T&L) rather than a driver issue. Especiallyif the drivers are dated march this year on Compaq's website.

For an MX440 Go thats pretty decent support!

CS:S mostly, just at lunch in college over a wireless lan. My machine was playing up today so I presumed it could be a drivers issue, never really bothered me before.

I thought they disabled that account about three months ago?

they were supposed to as they were moving on to using non-general accounts, i.e. email and password required for login, but they never seemed to implement the full changeover. as such that user and password still works.

jonnybadd, if you want up-to-date drivers then try the omega drivers, note that these are not supported in any way by either nvidia, ati or your laptop manufacturer, probably best to keep the latest ones off the compaq website available just in case
