I'm starting to get a bit sick of having to go to Whelans every weekend if I want to hear some decent music anywhere. Starting to get into a bit of a rut, plus it's getting a tad too young for my liking.
    Anyone have any suggestions????

haha. I was just about to ask does anyone know anywhere decent on a Wednesday night for indie. thats the true holy grail.

Doyles is good upstairs all week I reckon. the village plays some very questionable tunes at the weekeend though. I quite like the Mezz Bar in Temple Bar and the Hub underneath it. Although you have to put up with some eletro and funk in the Hub but that doesn't really bother me. I always find myself back in Whelans eventually. My problem is the 7 euro in on a Friday and Saturday. Scandalous!

You clearly turned right at the bottom of the stairs.

Neptune is ok, if you get lucky and it's actually open when you try it. Mezz/Oak/Reads all good. Dorans is alright if you stay in the beer garden. The Village & Whelans are overpriced dives jam-packed with morons.

Quite right!!! No more mod on the rhs of Bruxelles. I think there is a big gap in the market for a pub/club that plays decent music.

The Gaiety is a good spot for dancing, all sixties/seventies stuff, great to hoof around to.

    Where are Oak and Reads?

The Oak/Thomas Reeds is on Dame Street, pretty near the Olympia.
Eamonn Doran's is a decent spot for good music.
I still frequent Whelan's regularly but I've noticed that there is a lot of nobs in there lately.

Yea Foggy Dew is a nice spot with good music but I find it get's too packed at weekends, finding a comfortable spot even to stand can be awkward and ordering a pint can be a nightmare.
Sin e is a brilliant spot in my opinion. The music is diverse leaving out pop and all that s**T. The staff and the people that frequent the place are very friendly, even if you don't go there with a big group you can still get chattin to loads of people.

Where is Carnival and what's it like??

    Across the road from Whelans.

Mostly indie stuff, crowd mostly late 20`s.

No, Flannery's is further up. Carnival is at the bottom of the street. It's name is high-lighted in multi-coloured lettering. You can't miss it.... Or can you?? ;)

The Mezz is generally pretty good, I like it there, but sometimes you end up with a really mediocre cover band.

I've never been to whelans though, might give it a try.

Eamon Dorans is always good, saw Eric Bell there this year by complete chance.
