Hi, im thinking of getting a 250 gig hard drive for my pc as it currently only has a 40gig hard drive in it. I am just wondering if there is any additional hardware i will need such as more RAM to deal with all the extra stuuf ill have on my C drive?

You wont need any extra hardware....just be sure to get the correct drive (probably IDE 3.5"), and make sure your motherboard supports 48bit LBA (i.e. large hard drives).

Khannie is right you won't need any additional hardware. I'd advise though to get an external case for your HD that way if your pc crashes you can just pick up your exteranal HD and plug it into a different pc and access all your data. Thats what I do.
