    Well done Mewso!

The leaderboard has been updated. Padraigf is so far ahead now its sick, but there's still a good chance of someone else taking the title as there's double points for the $20 Main event this Wednesday. See you all there.

    N.

Did I not put that in the sticky? Damnit!

A positional points sytem is actually a lot fairer. 1 point for last 2 for second last, 10 for 10th last and so on. Padraigf has finished consistently in higher positions than everyone else and that's how he is top.

Amazing really considering I was getting pretty fed up with Headsup play by the time me and Daitio started. Anway Nicky I assume points were equally distributed based on 2 finsihing 3rd, 4 finishing 4th etc.

I remember having this argument before, but a positional point system is not fairer. Good tournament poker players aim to finish in the money, and dont place any importance in trying to move up the ladder unless there is added money involved. What that system does is completely subvert normal optium tournament play, it basically rewards people who play incorrectly normally!

Of course its too late too change now for this competition.

    Event #6. Limit Holdem.Results.
    PokerStars Tournament #13300722, Limit Hold'em
    Buy-In: $10.00/$1.00
    16 players
    Total Prize Pool: $160.00
    Tournament started - 2005/11/09 - 16:00:00 (ET)
    Tournament finished - 2005/11/09 - 18:29:31 (ET)
    1: Lafortezza (Bray), $80.00 (50%)
    2: padraigf (Derby), $48.00 (30%)
    3: Culchie (Dublin), $32.00 (20%)
I crack up every time I see this.
I also think that the leaderboard should be done on a points not money finish. Possibly the fairest since there's been a different amount of runners in each event.

But do you see how its a different game? Normally there is no prize for he bubble, but the first in the money gets a lot (comparatively). But if you are playing for points it means there is much less of a difference. This means that optium play is different, and this is just a small example - it actually affects almost every facet of play. You are playing a different game, and one in which the rules arent explained before hand. Its like rewarding F1 drivers at the end of the season for their average speed rather than their points accumulation.

I have to admit I thought it was based on money won too, poker's about winning money and I wasn't expecting to get anything for 4th place. Having said that, if you do it completely on money won, one big event can skew the results (which is why WSOP and CardPlayer awards are not calculated this way).

I had a read of how CardPlayer magazine award points in their player-of-the-year award. It's dependent on number of entrants and buy-in, but the number of points you can win is capped so the winners of the biggest events don't dominate the standings. It's described here:
    http://www.cardplayer.com/poker_magazine/archives/?a_id=14488&m_id=65554
One notable aspect of it is that people who finish out of the money don't receive any points.

I'm not sure such a complicated points system would be worth using for a small competition like this, but in the absence of such a system I'd have thought money-won was the fairest (this was the basis for all my decisions anyway).

Of course it should be points for money, but you should be happy with this system. You can make money off the ignorant fish who are playing for "points".

    lol!

Originally I was going to go for a points for money system, then a few people PMed me and suggested the system I'm using now. Sorry I didn't put it in the sticky. My bad. :(

The other side of the coin though is that a lot players have played in all or most of the events and come close to the money several times (like me) and other player who only played one or two events and got lucky to somehow suckout on everyone and make the money, like Culchie. :D

To be fair Padraig has had a 2 second places, a third and 2 4th places. That sort of consistency has to count for something, but I see exactly where HJ is coming from. Under normal circumstances we are not playing for points, but for $$$$.

    lol :p

With all the stick you gave me for dumping you out last time, I was afraid to sign up for any more;)

    Great Consistency by Padraig.
