It'd be fantastic if it was, although I remain doubtful. If it did happen, I'd definitely save myself some cash and import a console from the states.

I really can't see this happening. Sony were not exactly import friendly with the PSP.

    Seems unlikely.

I own Japanese, American and European games that I play on my Japanese PSP. It's about the most import friendly console there is. I'm aware they weren't too accommodating of importers who tried to sell the console when it was unreleased here, but it is region free.

It was someone at Sony who talked about it being region free, so their obviously thinking about it. Hopefully it'll turn out to be true, the reasoning behind it makes sense(no more pal/ntsc differences), but that counts on everybody owning HDTVs, which everybody certainly doesn't and won't for a few years yet.

Yea I know that, but they were saying the console would be region free because there's no HDTV regions. But when connecting to a standard tv would your region free PS3 be outputting NTSC or PAL or both?

That's the one snag I can think of with it being region free. I really hope it is though.

Well I know everyone is a bit unsure of the new consoles and their bias towards HDTV (including myself), but surely you could pick up a nice Dell 19" LCD-TV for €448 for the PS3, I myself bought one purely for my Xbox 360 (when I get it!) as the TV is capable of 1080i interlaced hi-def output. Granted it's not a HDTV per se, nor is the 25ms something to shout about, but ****, it'll be a damn sight better than my existing 15" Philips! :o

Yea I'm getting a HDTV soon too, for the xbox 360(which I haven't preordered so and couldn't when I tried so I'm not sure how soon I'll have it)

I have to say those xbox 360 stands in shops are the best publicity for high definition tv and samsung. I wanted one as soon as I played it, more than I wanted the console. I was unsure of the console but an extended play of the Kameo demo in Xtravision today really changed my mind. And I love the joypad. More than a PS2 one, and I've always loved the playstation joypads.
