Wanna try my hand at a few cocktails as might be having a bit of a bash in the coming weeks.
Anyone got any recommendations on cocktails?

I suppose using liqour that is fairly common.I know I could buy a book but they never actually tell you what they taste like or a review of the drinks

    Ideas appreciated, Cheers

My list of personal favourites would include:

    Cosmopolitan
    Margherita
    Mai Tai
    Pina Colada
    Manhattan
    Dirty Martini
    Vodka Martini
    Sea Breeze

Most of those would be easy enough to make without having to roger your bank account buying 30 different spirits...

    1 pint glass:

    30% lucozade
    30% wicked blue

fill the rest evenly with: vodka, redbull, bacardi

a cocktail fit for the gods!

    A tom collins of sorts.

Ginger ale (ginger beer is better to make the proper tom collins)
    Lime juice
Cheapo tesco imperial vodka, 20.96 per litre bottle.
    Ice

Add 1 shot of vodka, 1/2 shot of lime juice over ice then top up with ginger ale.
Cheap to make cos the tesco vodka is such good value and seeing how it is in a mixdrink the quality is of no consequence.

    My fav cocktails would be:

    Black Russian
    Frozen Marguerita with Strawberries
    Sex on the Beach
    Flirtini

My advice if yr having a cocktail party is to limit the spirits to two.

That is have say whisky and gin, or vodka.

Then base yr drinks around those two.

    Each have plenty of options.

Dont get too adventerous either. Dont try making wild concoctions because you will be run off yr feet.

Plan which drinks you will be making before hand and stick to it.

Also make sure you have plenty of good clean glasses. Hopefully you have a dushwasher.

ad probably most important of all. Make sure you have loads of ice!

Make as much ice as you can. THEN DOUBLE IT!!!

You WILL run out of ice. get yr neighbours to make some too!

I'd agree the ice, not the spirits choice.

If I were completely limited and was trying to throw a cocktail party, I wouldn't bother even starting it unless I had, at the very least, vodka, rum and tequila. My second line defenders would be bourbon and peach schnapps.

Then mixers of orange, pineapple and cranberry juice.

Then soda water, lemonade, tonic water and coca cola.

I could manage a pretty decent range of drinkies with those five spirits and seven mixers.

Macattack's comments about the ice though?

    I second those.

In otherwords, make as much ice as he says, then double it like he says, then read my post seconding his suggestions on ice and make the same amount over yet again.
