    Hi there,

My computer has been crashing a lot lately and I need a little help discovering where in lies the problem, is there a good diagnostic tool that will push my memory gfx cpu hdd pretty hard to discover where the fault lies?

The problem occurs when I am gaming, usually playing fine for a while(maybe an hour or more) when the screen goes blank and the sound goes, followed by high pitched electrical noises in the headset. There isn't one specific game this is happenening in.

My initial thought was overheating, but I keep the dust levels low and it has 2 large case fans, dual fan in the psu proc and gfx card fan. the amd 64 chip runs nice and cool, the air coming from the proc fan is always cool, so if it is overheating I'm thinking it may be the grafix card, x700 pro 256 which has a small stock fan, however I need definate answers now, as this constant crashing isn't good for it.

Diagnostic tool reccomendations or theories on the problem are most welcome.

Update drivers would be 1st and foremost, mainly Gpu and sound card?

Them being the most likley things.

    *Mark(3DMark,etc.), and SiSoft Sandra?
Have you tried running the games at lower res/refresh rate and see if it affects it?

yeah gpu and sound card drivers all up to date.

there doesnt seem to be an option for graphics card in the burn in section of sandra.
refresh rate is only set to 60 at the moment and different rezzs dont seem to make a diff unfortunately.

I'll give 3dmark05 a go, does this have a diagnostic element. as in, if it is about to fail it will detect it and let me know what and why?

the gpu is running no hotter than 60ish degrees under load as far as i can tell and they are good up to 100 degrees, before being in the danger zone as it were, thanks for the feedback, any other tools, im pushing the gpu in ati tool atm to see if i can cause the fault.

wouldnt happen to be source would it? Because if it is then there is nothing wrong with your computer.

If not id say underpowered psu.

Not sure if you have tried it yet but 1st off is Control Panel/Admin/Event View and in system or application look for an error around the same time as the crash.
