Can you link up a sky+ box to a dvd recorder or a laptop that has a dvd burner, to burn dvds of what you've reorded?

To connect to a laptop or PC, you need a TV tuner card. This will convert the video into a format that can be recorded onto the DVD using the burner.

    Completely.

Though, with the likes of Media Center and Media Portal, it can be made that bit less painful.

Media Centre / Portal dosn't help at all. It is down to type and quality of hardware on PC. USB analog capture mostly rubbish as are most TV cards. Firewire via analog DV bridge is good but eats a lot of disk space.

Real Time MPEG needs dedicated capture processor, not cheap.

The only really sensible PC solution is Satellite Receiver card, but will only work work for FTA sky Channels.

A dedicated HD/DVD recorder is miles better than ordinary PC analog capture, but dedidacted Satellite PVR much better quality. Non Sky+ PVR allow Ethernet/USB/Firewire etc transfer to PC or even built in DVD writer.

The Sky+ deliberately has no method of digital transfer and even encrypts FTA channels to disk.
