    Hi,

I'm running WinXP Pro & would like to be able to create Win & Mac compatible CD/ DVD.

I believe it's not possible without have a Mac partition on the hard drive - is this true?
If it is, is there anyway to create a Mac partition on a Win PC using software etc?

    All suggestions appreciated

What do you mean a Mac compatible CD/DVD?

    Are you talking audio/video/data?

[for CD, at least] choose ISO 9660 as the standard when burning, and CLOSE the disc.. AFAIK it should be OK..

I'm currently in the process of designing a CD to be sent out to potential clients. It would contain html files, jpg & perhaps some video/ audio content - multimedia I suppose..

ISO 9660 should do it. Work on Mac/Win/*nix

    Really?

Not that I doubt you guys & girls - I asked because I read this in the Nero help files:
A hybrid CD contains both files for PCs and Apple Macintosh computers according to the HFS standard. Nero Burning ROM 7 creates so-called 'non shared' Hybrid CDs. This means that if you wish to use files on the Mac and on a PC then they must be on the CD twice: Once in the ISO sector and once in the HFS sector.

    and
If you want to make a Hybrid CD from a PC, the HFS input data must be on an SCSI harddisk connected to the PC. Remember however that the data on the SCSI harddisk can only be created with an Apple Mac computer. An SCSI harddisk with the HFS input data must be connected up to the PC before a Hybrid CD can be created. The SCSI harddisk must be connected and powered up before the PC is switched on. There must also be no duplication of SCSI device numbers

I think the problem is not with the CD format itself but how the data is encoded. I might be way off here but I think with some file types they have to be converted before they can play on a MAC (Something to do with the most-important-bit and the way it encodes filetypes into a header in the file rather than natively use extensions). They should have the tools on the MAC to do any conversion on common file formats, just remember to stay away from Msoft or any remotely exotic std.s just to be sure (Eg. choose MP3 for audio over WMA, std. MPG for video and not WMV etc.). Someone else should be able to provide a LOT better info....

SparrowHawk, a hybrid CD is different from just a CD with data that can be read by both systems. A hybrid CD holds a PC file system and a Mac file system, giving I suppose ultimate compatibility but with a trade off of space etc.

A simple ISO-9660 format disk should work without problems, OSX and Windows both read that format, the only issue is the actual data filetypes: jpgs and html shouldn't be any issue but multimedia might - perhaps quicktime files are the best choice also, assuming target PCs have quicktime installed?
