It happened me yesterday too, I'd really appreciate it if someone knew a way to get them back...

Go to the bookmark manager and click export in the file menu. It will export the bookmarks to a html file and you can import them if they dissappear again.

Strange they dissappear though, do you delete the firefox install folder, or the default profile or something?

Use that if Firefox crashes all your bookmarks gone, using that saves them.

Oh, handy tool that. Just in case FFox ever decides to wipe mine out.

    Thanks for the link.

I thought it had stopped doing that stuff months ago!? There is a bookmarks backup folder in the latest builds of Fx I suggest you guys grab the 1.5 beta I you are using Fx 1. I suppose a clean install would be best.

Oh and by the way you should all check inside the Fx profiles directory to see if you have backups of your bookmarks - you may just get lucky. C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles is the directory (replace USERNAME with your usename) the directory is a hidden one so unhide it (windows hides lots of useful stuff I hate that!)

Perhaps what's happening here is that your profile is locking when you crash.

When you re-start firefox you're getting a new profile and so
you think all your settings/ bookmarks are gone, not so.

Restart your machine, and go start> run

    enter

    firefox -profilemanager

    Choose your original profile,
    this should solve the problem.

Wow freaky, lots of people losing their bookmarks... I lost all my mozilla bookmarks yesterday or the day before... just out of the blue... there one minute, all gone the next.
I imported a backup, but I could only find one from ~10 months ago.
(I've only been using the one 'default' profile.)
Never happened to me before... weird that it's happened to a few people here around the same time isn't it? .. maybe there's something going around?

Did you try the profile manager thing as above?
When the profile is locked firefox automatically assigns a new profile,
    hence the bookmarks "disappear".

Well I'm using Mozilla, so firefox -profilemanager isn't likely to do much :v:
Anyway, I can access the profile manager through Mozillas main menubar... and, as ever, there is only one profile listed - 'default', which is what I always use.
Even in the \Documents and Settings\..\Application Data\Mozilla\Profiles\ folder there is only one profile folder named 'default'.
Weird aswell though, everything else associated with that profile (my mail settings, browser options, irc etc) are all fully intact.... only the bookmarks were wiped.

    Fudged tbh :/

Actually, just reading the firefox forums there, it seems this kind of thing happens if the machine is restarted while mozilla is running... which I have to say happened an awful lot the other day when nvTune went and bluescreened me over and over :(

Bah, note to self: export your bookmarks more often.

Ah, ok, thought you were talking about Firefox, given the thread title.
I must not have read your post properly.

Well since Firefox and Mozilla are such close siblings (under the bonnet at least), I don't feel too much of a monkey posting in a firefox thread ;)

I've gone from Netscape 4.x, Mozilla, Sunbird, Firefox etc and I've not lost my bookmarks file yet :)
Oh well guess I'm a lucky one
