Hey guys, sorry to be starting another thread asking which camera to get I know it gets monotonous but I'm really stuck as regards where to start.
My sister would like digital camera, she is a art student and would like it to go around taking pictures for her portfolio and to work from later. Basically were talking around the €200 mark with a little leeway if the spec really justified it.

So could someone please point me in the direction of the better ones in that price range?
I had a look at the links in the sticky's and the Canon Powershot range kind of stood out from the rest, would they be a good choice?

    Thanks,
    Paul.

If I was taking photos to put into a portfolio, I'd like to be armed with something a shade better than a €200 camera. Of course, I suppose that depends on what your two hundred quid would buy you these days. I'd probably be looking for something that'll give sharp prints up to around A3, especially if someone was going to hire me based on what they see in my portfolio.

I personally love the powershot range. I've had an S30 for years and although it's 3.2mp is puny by todays standards, it still takes good shots. Course, I've never bothered to get anything from it printed above 8x6...

On the broader Canon range (and if you buy it over the internet), €270 will get you a 5mp Ixus 50, €128 will get you a 3.2mp Powershot A410 and anything else well and truly shatters your budget. The above two are on technikdirekt.com by the way. Out of those two I'd get the Ixus 50. Powerful, small enough to put into your pocket...

I'm sure many more will offer opinions on the matter; your subject seems to be very popular of late :D

Thanks Rymus, I agree with you there on the better camera thing but that's as far as the budget reaches at the minute so I'm trying to squeeze the best value for money I can out of it.

The powershot stuff is looking better and better alright, I'll give them a closer look.

    Thanks again.
