The most exciting hand thread (I find) is one where the hero is faced with one big decision, hopefully for all his chips. To add to dramatic tension hero should have a hand of medium strength and should be faced with a bet out of proportion to the size of the pot. Unfortunately these by their nature are usually exciting, but not educational. We are much better off learning to play poker on multiple streets rather than becoming an experts at picking off bluffs. So from now on ill try and post better hands, but this last time can I please present....

I cant sleep and get up to play some poker. I sat down at some tables and left for looser climates. This is about my 4th hand at this table. The only hand I played against the villain he called my bet on the turn in an unraised pot and I checked called his half pot bluff on the river with bottom pair. He had called a bet with a gutshot on a paired board, so hes probably not great. Ive never played with him before, or any of the other players at the table. Of the 4 hands since I sat down 2 of them have been raised preflop, which is why I limped, which is definitely not my default play but Im happy to keep pots small or over preflop until I get a read on my opponents.

I'm calling without a seconds hesitation. He either has an overpair (9's or 10's probably), a straight draw or an 8 with something. I don't think he'd play 2 pair or a set this way.

    Best bet ever. Call.

I'd call and keep the fingers crossed.

Im actually going to say fold here.
    a) He was SB and only had to call half a bet so could be in pot with 6 3 or 3 8 etc.
    b) He could have 33, 66 and even 88 and have simply completed the BB rather then raise but id say that and thing from 10 10 upwards he would probably raise.
    c) If he is bad enough to have raised all in with anything you are beating at the mo, you will get a better chance to take his money (provided you dont go back go back to bed)

Basically I just think you will be loosing this more then half the time and the raise is so big relative to pot you need to win roughly 50/50 to break even.

    just my 2 cents

LOL! I'd actually fold with the info you have on this lunatic.. Surely if he bets 230 at an $8 pot you'll find a better time to get it all..

But purely for the stupidity of the bet it might be worth a call.

Although saying that, if he has 333 it's not a bad bet! On the off chance that someone limped with a big hand you take out all the hassle of building the pot etc.. and you get paid big time by QQ/KK/AA. Actually, this is a likely scenario.. Fold.

Is this another one of those "i'm actually the villain" of this piece threads? They usually begin with a back story and limping with Aces seems suspicious for a LAG such as hector.

If not, then i say either he has pocket 7s, or an overpair. Its an unraised pot, so he's not sure anybody else has caught anything. Even bad players at least have some concept of how to get value from their good hands.

I reckon he has an over pair and I'd call

i think this may be one of those 'I'm actually the villain' judging by the limp preflop. And Hector's trying to see if anyone else would play aces like this and then call. MMM?

Looks to me like he's pressed the all in button by accident. Call.

Yea hj was in the sb with 8,3 and called then pushed after the flop and lost to the river

Any chance of what happened HJ? ...... not that it changes whether or not you should have called

Give a man a chance to sleep!

No i was utg. I think baring a read I had to call this, why would anyone play a set like this, or 2 pair. So I called. As soon as I called the button insta-called as well, and I felt sick. I was 100% sure he had 888 or 666 and I was really annoyed that I had been set up by the sbs stupidity.

Funnily enough on Party poker if a player does this its almost always the nuts.
