At the moment I have an 80cm lidl dish with a superjack motor and i'd like to get a bigger dish for feeds etc. Any german site i found with good prices for dishes around that size dont seem to deliver to Ireland or only allow for collection. So im just wondering can anyone recommened where to get one at a good price (around 100 euros before delivery)

Yes the weight puts up delivery cost. A 120cm dish is MORE than FOUR times the weight of a Sky minidish typcally.

At 60 mph wind I think the wind load on a 1m dish is nearly 4 tonnes. Make sure dish is at a sheltered aspect.

Make sure high quality bolts and brackets and pole used, not fittings for a Lidl or Sky dish! And not screws and plastic plugs for wall. Masonry bolts.

On my shed the bolts on the top barcket of two brackets hold pole for dish on wall came loose, I used two pieces of stud from a long piece bought in Co-Op to bolt nuts on inside of shed wall through the bracket!

I use masonary bolts on a 55CM dish - you're nuts (no pun intended) to use anything weaker on any dish in this country, even inland.

Is this a normal satellite dish:
    http://cgi.ebay.ie/130cm-Satellite-DISH-Brand-NEW_W0QQitemZ5842093067QQcategoryZ29783QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

If so, would a motor be able to support it? As far as I know my motor supports up to 120cm , but would 10cm more make much of a difference or would it pull the whole thing off the wall in no time? ;)

I dont recognise it but maybe you could email the guy and ask him what weight it is.

The issue is not just weight. Though more than 90cm on any normal H-H Diseq motor does need lightweight Aluminium. Steel and / or Fibreglass can be too heavy even at 1.2m

The major issue is wind load.
    100cm dish roughly 3.2 sq m Area.
130 cm dish roughly 5.3 sq m Area.

Thus 1.6 times the wind load.

It might also be more or less 1.6 times the weight depending on construction.

    How sheltered is it?

IMO the 1.2m claims for most Disqec motors is the lightest dish possible and a sheltered location (At the least mounted on a wall going East/West below the top.), i.e. Optimistic.

Too much weight and/or wind load can cause the following:
    * Motor or controller failure due to excess current
    * Dish creeps around further East or West when not near due South.
    * The gears (usually some bits are nylon) wear (inaccurate positioning) or fail.
    * Motor can't move dish against strong breeze

If you have good enough bolts it won't come off the wall though.
    Oops I did sums fro 100cm / 1m not 1.2m/120cm.

The rear of dish looks a bit flimsy to me.

I agree watty anything above a lightweight 1.1 is pushing your luck

and here in the wesht where we have much better quality wind and more of it than the stuff yiz gets in Dublin you could knock another .1m off that figure I'd say , wouldnt bother much with anything over 1m . My dish is mounted on the east wall of my house and cannot pick up anything west of about 5e .

Yep much as a 1.8 or 1.3 would be loverly, I'd go for a 1.1 on the Motor. I better start saving :)

If you want to go over 1.2m, you can get a Superjack H-to-H for not much more than a Diseqc motor.
    http://www.satshop24.de/pi-1102567720.htm?categoryId=53

You do need a receiver with 36V positioner, however, or else a V-box II or equivalent to convert Diseqc commands to 36V.

Motek do a lovely box that either recognises the Disqec commands from a receiver, or in case of brain dead Sky box, also has its own position memories and a IR remote control for the armchair.

I have wondered, though, isn't the azimuth range of a jack more limted?

I agree it is only economic solution for very big dishes.

The V-box II is a Moteck product. I've been using one with a few weeks and they work very well.

A polar mount and jack have a more limited range, although that's more to do with the way the mount is designed than the actual jack. You can get jacks up to 52 inches.

A H-to-H mount has the same range or more as a Diseqc motor i.e. from the zero elevation on the eastern horizon to zero elevation on the western horizon.

Write a review for ICDGopedia. I never saw one but I thought it an ideal accessory.
Will it let a regular Diseqc box control a C Band setup if you add an exctra 14V / 18V to polariser control? How would you manage the elevation actuator?

No probs on the positioner side with C-band, same as Ku. Only problems if you have a very heavy dish (> 100kgs), then you have to watch that the current draw won't exceed 3A - but you can get around this if you add a counterweight to the mount.

Control of the polarotor is an obstacle for a standard FTA box. Either use a voltage switched LNBF or a 13/18V->pulse converter (no experience of these).

Or if you prefer the DIY approach, rotate the entire feedhorn:

An old car battery works fine. Or one of these:
