Gutshot Card Room London

    Hi,

Anybody here ever played at Gutshot Card Room London before? I was in London during the week and with a few hours to kill on Monday night I wandered downaround 6ish.

I joined up and put my name down for the £50 buy-in limit hold 'em game, blinds £1-£2. There wasn't much happening so I thought I'd hang around for a while and if the cash game didn't start, move on. The tournament that night was a satellite to a game later in the month - no good to me.

When the game opened up it was a lot of fun, with some good players and a couple of characters, one guy in particular being a good laugh until he got the hump about something and stormed off. The dealers were good, and I really liked the ability to pop upstairs, grab a beer and bring it down to the table. Also handy is the lack of a "cooling-off" period - you can simply sign up & play. I think this is allowed because of the "collective" nature of the card room.

I eventually left about 11pm, up £110. All in all, a fun evening in a nice friendly card room. I'd recommend it to anyone passing through London who fancies a game.

Yeah, went over a couple of weeks ago to play a game. Super place. A place like that in Ireland would go down brilliant. I really liked the layout and style of the place. I did find the place a little unfriendly in a sense that I was disrespected purely because I was unknown., I wouldn't imagine this happening in any irish club. There is a story to it but I won't go into here.
Overall I thought the place was pretty nice. Some VERY good players. GREAT food and PC's there too.
Was thinking of trying to orgainse an Irish invasion for a night or two, get a few players over to play etc. + London is a great town for da nightlife!

EDIT: Just realised that you might be pimping - first post and all??

Fair point, should have posted something to say that I'm not. It is my first post here, but I'm a reasonably long-time lurker. At least one of the other posters knows me by name and can vouch for me. Others on here have met me but probably wouldn't remember me.

Definitely not pimping - just looking for opinions.

What was your issue there? I got nothing but respect & friendliness from people, but I could see there being problems with some players. That being said, the management seemed to know what they were doing, so I wouldn't worry about playing there again.

Just joking about the pimping - has been a lot latley!
yeah I will agree that the staff and management were impecable. I had a (very minor) incident when a table split. I was playing at my first table for about 60 mins. I'd say I played about 3 hands out of position, otherwise I was protecting. To say I was playing like a rock is an understatment - I reckoned I didn't know anyone so I was picking my hands. Anyway, that table got split and we were moved downstairs. I got put on one table and a guy that was on my first table was put on the adjacent table. When I sat down a player at the new table got up to ask the other player if I was any good or not. The player, from the first table, actually got up and walked over to the table I was at a called out "fish" towards me. I thought that this would never happen at ANY irish club.
I lasted about 2 hours longer than the guy that called me a fish :D
Other than him, all the other players were a great laugh and I would be back in the morning if i could!

I have to say I don't think it's a patch on The Fitz and also felt that it's not particularly friendly to outsiders. Bearing in mind that I have a London accent as well. But after a while and as the tables shrank there were some decent players and people.

Thanks Dom, knew I could rely on you. :)

FatBoyDim, I might have been just lucky with the guys on the table I was on. Still, I enjoyed it & would go back when I can.

the gutshot's a real cool place. the guy who owns the place is the dodgiest looking gangster i've ever seen. Greasy pony tail, armani trench-coat thingy and all.
It was slightly unfriendly but that came from the players more than the staff who were nothing but welcoming.
And even though it was the place where i experienced the worst beat of my life, i thoroughly enjoyed playing there.
It also doesn't have any semblance of casino brashness, as it only has poker(and chess?!!).
Cool place with a somewhat unfriendly clientele.

well i don't know if he was the owner or what, but he seemed to be in charge of everything. So probably some manager type. He looked like an owner type though. Ah sure it's a trivial point anywho

I think his name is John, his shirt said Cardroom Manager. He was definitely in charge the night I was there.
