Once I get past the initial boot screens, the computer checks for DMI info then says NTLDR is missing - Ctrl + Alt + Del to restart. Any idea how this could have happened and how I can get the pc to boot again? Specs are the 1st machine in my sig.

I don't have a floppy disk. Followed this guide with a USB flash drive and the machine booted 1st time. The thing is though, it didn't come up with any of the screens listed there, it jsut straight booted into windows without giving any errors at the DMI info stage. I've no idea how this could have happened in the first place either.

That error is generally a nightmare to fix - been there. There was a virus out a couple of years back caused this problem....

Hope you got it fixed ok but I'd run a full diagnostics check and defrag etc to be safe if I was you....

horrible error message that, could mean a number of things but i think most likely it means a corrupt NTLDR file or NTDETECT.COM file. Think you can use the Recovery Console to fix that.

Dont waste your time trying to fix it, format and reinstall :(. I have battled away for an entire day before trying to get my machine back, was pulling my hair out. I have found its usually caused by a buggered HDD.

Get a 2nd hd and install your OS on that. the boot sector might be screwed and you might still be able to access data on the disk. Happened to me yonks ago. Could'nt boot of the hd again, but could see everything on it.

Yeah, it's working perfectly. I just left the machine off for a while why I trawled the web on my other pc, then booted up with a USB mem. key in a slot and it booted straight away. I had set it to boot from USB FDD but it didn't lool like it did. Very strange.
