Expect lots of posts about their drug use and media attention.

The songs I've heard, I've liked all three singles basically, but I havent been tempted to get the album.

was contemplating buying it (mainly because of the hype), but i think i won't waste my money..... i heard a few of their tracks, '**** forever' is below average at best and the track they put on the 'help:a day in the life' album 'bollywood to batersea' is just crap

    thats not on the album,

thr tracks worth getting it for, apart from the singles already are

    loyalty song,

    a rebours,

    up the morning,

    8 dead boys,

    pipedown

    and the 32nd of december,

the album as a whole is a grower, could have been produced better, fans will love it, some people who are not fans will grow to love it, and then there are the others who will just go on about how he's a waste, a junkie etc etc etc, they'll be here soon,

    they are suprisingly late

I'm counting down the minutes until the Pete Doherty hating muppets who say ''drugs are bad'' and ''no rock star has ever taken drugs'' will come on here and say the album is sh!t becasue ''drugs are bad'' without ever listening to the album.

I was expecting a shambles of an album and it most certainly isn't. I'm pleasanty surprised! I've only given one listen but I liked it immediately is a rare thing for me with new albums. The album has a great swagger and confidence to it with a very edgy element to it. Many typical great singalongs such as ''32nd December'', ''Sticks and Stones'', ''I'm in love with a Feeling'' and ''Loyalty Song.'' Pipedown is an instant Doherty classic and along with the cracking ''F*ck Forever'' and the melodic ''Albion'' there isn't much wrong with the album. Only flaws is the producing which is lapses at periods, the new version of ''Killamangiro'' isn't a patch on the original and Pentonville is a poor attempt at reggae. Without a doubt though overall it's a fine album.

The best ''f**k you'' to your critics if there ever was one!

have to say, wasn't overly impressed with it, but once i listen to it a few more times it'll grow on me. still listening to a couple of other albums so it'll have to wait

I currently listening to the album and so far so good. It's a very raw album, and raw is good with me. And the Kate Moss song is excellent. Can't see how it's suppose to be a concept album though??????? It might be too long at 16 songs. But at least we something positive to talk about for once!

Eh? What's this Kate Moss song?

I like it, though it's not nearly as good as either of the Libertines albums. Some very good songs on it. About 3 I don't like. Versions of Killamangiro and **** Forever are good. Nice to hear them differently. Pipedown and Back From The Dead are probably my favourite songs so far.

Happy with it, but not thrilled.

yack, this thread has caused me to write my first post...

I am a bit of a fan really...and to the critics of la belle et le bete...

I have to say I think it is a beautiful piece of music.it is a wonderful depiction of a haunting fairy tale that demonstrates tight muscianship, (Drew has surpassed himself,Patrick has shown that he is probably on of the best guitarists and most inivitive of today and Adams rythm never ceases to make me) heavy bass and not forgetting the slick Mick Jones production. It has come along way since the days of the demo version-"Conversation Diva"-which saw Pete playing it solely with an acoustic guitar. This is possibley the most honest record i have ever heard..when Kate Moss's delicate and fragile vocals creep in between Pete's deep and almost warning vocals...it is magical...her line "is she more beautiful than me?"...is a very appropriate lyric considering Kate asked Pete to choose between her and drugs...It is a very interesting true to their life modern romance tale...and has an essence of the 1920's flowing through..showing it is a modern classic...

I have fallen for Babyshambles even deeper than the Libertines..Pete is still proving his lyrical genius talents in this record..he has shown himself as a urban poet and is still a commentator of the lifestyle of the british working class and he has proven he was the main lyrical talent behind the libertines and the writer of the genius songs like Time for Heroes this is evident from the lyric-

"there are few or more distressing sights than that of an english man in a baseball cap"...

and from the song the good old days.....

"If you've lost your faith and love in music the end won't be long"

...but babyshambles in my opinion have exceeded this lyrical standard in the new album which sees Doherty honing in on himself,he shows an honesty to point out his faults and to express his opinions about his former band the libertines particularly in the song **** forever...and this album was criticised in early stages by critics as saying the album is just a rehash of Libertines songs....but it clearly isn't songs like pipe down and Up the Morning are complete babyshambles and the older songs like Killamangiro has been developed and apopted to babyshamble's sound..this is probably the most diverse album I have and will probably ever hear...it triumphs in crossing over from regee-sticks and stones to rap-pentonville to punk-Pipe Down to acoustic numbers like merry go round....

These songs are anthems...in particular Albion-a depiction of the romanticism associated with Pete's desire to travel to Arcadia on the Albion ship...Pete expresses his true passion for Britian and Britsih culture.Pipe down exceeds in delievering an anthem that actually has a meaning unlike so many so called anthems of our generation(this is the babyshambles answer to "Can't stand me now")...this is a song Greenday would give up their ability to play powerchords and red ties just to have written it.

Half of the potential "indie" buying population will be dismiss this as a messy record and be turned off because unlike the monotonous kasier cheifs and the simple Artic monkeys commercial appeal, the mistakes have been left in on this record.Which makes it way more appealing...

Pete Doherty is one of the few saviours left in modern music...and I don't care what bandwagon I am on..it is the truth..see passed the tabloid nonsense..open your mind and open your ears

    Gosh that was a rant......

Your two posts are the only ones that have mentioned drugs, sounds like your trying to get a reaction to be honest.

The album is up on NME.com to listen to. I've given it a listen and it's okay but, as usual with Babyshambles, doesn't live up to the hype.

No, just tired trawling through that kind of rubbish anytime there are posts on Pete Doherty.

It's a little more likely that those posts dissuade people from slating the band for such things.

Anyway, why do you have to compare it to the hype?

I gave it a proper listen there yesterday. I liked it alot, some dodgy songs, but then again a few gems. The roughness of the production also appealed to be sort of. Made it less sterile, for want of a better word.

yeah ive given it a good listen to, actually listening to it now....

    its growing on me

was going to buy the album but not sure now to be honest after hearing all that is it worth it

I've only listened to it a couple of times but can't say I've been overly impressed. I wasn't expecting much as the Libertines were highly over rated. And that has nothing to do with Pete Doherty being a ****

I love it. Not quite as much as The Libs - Up The Bracket, but it's definitely something special. La Belle Et La Bete in particular is a beautiful song

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,286 ✭✭✭SprostonGreen

I listened to it on NME.com, thought it was mostly good. I'll listen to it again, then decide on buying it.

The new version of Killamangiro I dont really like, but I do like F uck Forever.

Overall I think I expected more, but I quite like a few songs on the album. Also, since I heard it first more songs are growing on me. I really like "La Belle Et Las Bete".
