new dial up connection

    im trying to set up a dial up connection on a friends comp. he has xp home sp2 but in the new connection aetup dial up is greyed out. when i run the iol free setup it cant find the modem but its there in system properties and did a self test on it and it passed so its working. dunno what to do.

    please help asap

    Point at the Internet Exploer icon on the desk top/right click/select properties or start/settings/control panel/internet options.

    From the tabs select 'Connections'/ you'll see three buttons Add/Remove/Settings - A window which will either be blank (it should be) or default connection. You also have three options below this window - never dial a connection/Dial when a a network connection is not present and Always dial my default connection. Select this last option and from there you should be able to add a new connection - just follow the instructions from there..

    nb: you may need to click apply first...

    yes did that theres nothing in the box under dial up and virtual private network settings but the 3 options are greyed out so i cant select them. i click on add. and get this message dunno what it is or what to do.
    'Cannot load the Remote Access Connection Manager service.
    Error 711: A configuration error on this computer is preventing this connection. For further asistance, click more info or search Help and Support Center for this error number.

    any ideas ive tried this
