Help! Fat stomach!

I've gained a few pounds in recent months and now have more than a little bump for a stomach. if I don't start losing weight soon, I'll have to buy new clothes as my unsightly bulge is protruding over my trousers. I know, sounds horrible. I resemble one of those guys that has a beer belly!!!

I've restarted doing my situps and stretching exercise and jogging, which should help to firm things up. The real problem is that I am starting to get back pain/stress. Having a bath with aromatherapy oils usually sorts things out in the short term, but I know I should be doing something to strengthen my, non-existent, back muscles.

Perhaps one of you has been or is in a similar scenario, if yes, I could do with some advice, as at this stage I feel so unfit that I'm having problems sleeping.

I weigh 10 stone for 5 foot 4 inches, which is probably a little overweight.

I wonder how obese people survive, I'm only a little overweight and am already having problems walking etc.

Situps and stretching will do absolutely nothing for your 'little bump'. You have to exercise and eat properly.......

Do you have access to a gym?

to strengthen your back and tighten your tummy muscles at teh same time, do a pilates class. anyone who says its for wimps has obviously never been. some of those stretches are enough to make you cry, its great!

Well, I had a "little bump" before and the situps and jogging worked wonders, really firmed up those abs!

Admittedly, that little bump is now a little bit bigger, so it will probably require more work.

    abdominal fat.

If you have the little bump you discribe:

its more likely caused by endocrine/metabolic factors

    to fix it:

approach it from 3 angles: exercise, nutrition and hormonal(NB: these will all have a reciprocal relationship with each other too - hence the often repetition in 3 areas! )

Endocrine: minimise stress hormones that can exasperate abdominal fat(cortisol in excess). go to bed early(=telly off early), don't work night shifts, less partying, eating regularly, very long training sessions, STRESS,etc, promote fat burning/musclemaintaining/building hormones not feminine hormones like estrogen that promote fat gain. Brief fat burn/aerobic sessions not long ones etc

nutrition: small portions, carbs low in evening, carbs high in morning, eat after training(carbs and protein), eat protein with every meal, eggs, meat, fish etc, not soya for example(phytoestrogens/isoflavones), don't be eating carbs at night. you don't need them and can't process them as well.

training: seperate fat burn/cardio sessions from weights. train for concrete goals not pseudoscientific fitness magazine goals. example: train for strength and do some cardio to help fat loss. Manipulate training for ex do short rest intervals to promote more growth hormone release(debateable research but in practical terms works very well to get rid of the 'paunch' you descibe.

pm me if you need more details or studies etc. i hate typing
