Ok, I know it's a little early but will you be getting a real christmas tree or one of those crappy plastic fake trees? I personaly hate those bloody fake trees, they ruin christmas. There is nothing like the smell of a real tree in your living room. The aroma is what it's all about! All though they create a hell of a mess when you're bringing them and they're probably more expensive in the long run it's definatly worth it.

What kind of tree will you be getting this Christmas? 78 votes

Yeah, I hate fake trees too; the sad thing is that we have one of those things so our "real Christmas tree" days are over. :( I totally miss the smell of the trees.. even though they did create a mess...

I think plastic ones are way better. The real ones are always a really ****ty shape and they leave a mess after christmas. Also i think the smell is bad. Whats more important then this though is the lights selection. Those multi-coloured flashing lights with big stupid flashing santas on the outside of the house make the place look like a council house. Pure ****e.

Just get this then and stick with the fake ones... they look as good as real these days anyway and you'll save a packet.

Fake trees have come a long way in recent years and if you spend a bit of cash then you can get a very good one that will last you for years.

Personally I can't stand the pine needles all over the floor and the attempts to get the thing to stay upright... The real trees are far to expensive these days too.

    Boo trees!!!!!!
I love the smell of a real tree, makes christmas, christmas

Fake one for us, hopefully! I like real ones, but the smell gets to be too much after a while, and it's terrible to clean up.

Real trees are the only way to go in my opinion... even sweeping up the needles isnt so bad.

Fake one. The real ones leave all that crap all over the place and then you have to dispose of it.

Oh definately a fake one, there just so much handier and in the long run much cheaper.

Real Christmas Trees are lovely but we have a fake one :( .... it looks good though when its all decorated and stuff!!!... It doesn't smell like a real tree but there is a smell off it because its in the attic for about 350 days of the year!!!! hehe... n it wouldn't be christmas without the thing!

we've never had a real tree, always the same one, i feel so deprived :(

ah no i prefer the fake ones, less trouble and same effect imo!!

as with all things in life, real is always superior- sometimes they're slightly deformed, a little bent out of shape, but at least you know what you're dealing with :p

Fake tree. we still havn't taken it down since last christmas, its just been sitting in the corner since last december. during easter we threw a few eggs on it then for summer put little suns up, for hallowe'en little ghosts etc...
Best thing to do imo, its christmas all year round in Funks house.
people have been saying all year that its a bit late(after june it changed to early)to have you tree up. Gonna laugh at them climbing into attics and untangling lights now...mwahahaha.

A tree is not just for christmas folks, its for life.

Used to have a horrible fake one but we got rid of it and have been getting real ones since

We have a fakie here but I envy those with real trees, far better.
Anyone know where you can buy the smell of a Christmas tree in a can?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,816 ✭✭✭Calibos

What a lot of people don't realise is that the 'Real Tree' smell is not the pine needles but the piss from the countless dogs that cocked their legs on the tree's as they passed by the Christmas Tree's sellers pitch.

Well thats when we moved from Real to Fake when one of our tree's started to smell and we worked out what the smell was. :D:D

There are few things better for me than having the smell of a real Christmas tree wafting through the house in the run up to, and on christmas..
they're the only way to go imo.. the mess doesn't bother me too much.. they make christmas so much more authentic..

Hey, does anyone know where I can buy a real tree in East Wall....or as close as possible...I have a car but its not huge so wouldn't fit a massive one. How much do real trees cost these days?

  • Hosted Moderators Posts: 5,945 ✭✭✭BEAT

I prefer fake trees, not because real ones are a mess or a pain but because Id rather not kill a living beautiful tree and bring it indoors to die so I can decorate it and put gifts under it and then toss it out in a month....
Id rather leave the trees outside where they belong and decorate my fake one indoors.

Now I know lots of people (including my roomate) make it a tradition to go out with thier families and hack down thier own tree and drag it home and thats nice and more power to them, its just not a tradition I will ever partake in ;)
