I need to replace the psu in a dimension 8100.

Is there anything unusual about them .. I remember reading somehwere that teh pin locations in the motherboard connector were not the same as a std psu ?

    Any ideas ?

    Cheers,
    Declan

8100 PSU's are non standard so you'd have to get one somewhere like www.pcpowerandcooling.com (expensive though). There are probably other places that do Dell suited ones, or if you have the patience of a Saint ring them and ask to buy a new one.

Is the old one knackered or what?

I'm assuming it is... a bit of a burning smell from it.

It won't switch on, and I'm trying to get the case apart to get at the switch to make sure thats working.. easier said than done.

The green led on the motherborad does come on when you give it mains though ... so mabye its not knackered ?

    Any suggestions ?
