Which receiver?

At the moment we have Sky. I would like to get rid of it in favour of a FTV box -preferably one with PVR if possible.?

Do different receivers have different options/settings? What is a good one?

Is it possible to stick a (legit) SKY card into one of these to get those channels? Would the PVR then work with those channels? ...unlikely I suppose, but best to ask.

Also, I assume I can just replace the Sky box with the FTV one without adjusting anything on the roof?

    -Kevin.

you can get this pvr ready reciever http://www.digi-sat-online.de/product_info.php?cPath=49_61&products_id=602
for 115 incl. del .thats a real bargain.get yourself a moteck motor at 41 off same site.i am waiting on a delivery from them tomorrow through ups.paid by bank transfer last wednesday, shipped on tuesday.you can get DIGIT ALB cards showing soccer, movies for 200 a year.but you will have to get a con*x cam for about 40 to use with the reciever.another option is 7000S dream box for 400 ,which you can also put a hdd into.you can just stick any card into the dream box ,no cam needed.it also works with sly cards.

    Thanks for that.
I'm not sure what a "con*x cam" is. ? ...Or what a 'cam' is for that matter. ?
Can I use the existing Sky dish & wiring with a 7000S dream box?

The Finepass receiver looks... fine. Why pay the extra for the Dream box? (why is that so expensive?)
Is it just a question of sticking a HDD into either one to use as a PVR or is there further tweaking/firmware-fixing necessary?

you can get the cheaper dreambox 500s for 200,but you cannot add a hdd to it.
i think they are releasing a model soon ,like the 500s model but you can put a 2.5" hdd into.there are a lot of decent fta channels on sky at the moment ,bbc ,itv etc.but if you want to record sky channels, non fta ,sky plus would probably work out cheaper.
