    My sister is having a problem with her eircom dial up connection....every 7 mins or so the connection dialogue reappears even though she's connected.....the dialog stops her from using Internet Explorer....

    This problem has surfaced only recently...anyone got any suggestions as to what may be causing this....? thanks

    Its generally to do with a setting eircom have put on during installation (if she used an installation disk), best bet would be to scrap the connection and set it up manually

    When the connection dialog re-appears, is it trying to dial Eircom's number or a different one? Could be spyware dial-up if it's different, though they normally disconnect you and re-dial automatically.

    Anyway, you could just delete your Eircomnet dial up, as the Duck says, and re-create it with the internet connection wizard. The settings you need are the number, 1892150150 and the username and password, both eircomnet (or anything at all I think). The mail server is mail1.eircom.net and the DNS servers are Primary 159.134.237.6 and Secondary 159.134.248.17

    If the problem persists then it could be spyware in Internet Explorer (very likely). Follow the link in your own sig to correct her problem if that's the case ;)

    this happened to me for six months...it was a dodgy router

  • its still happening....every 6 mins or so the modem just quits....I've checked the number etc and everything seems ok.....did a scan with ad-aware and spybot but problem persists....

    Have you checked for the connection icon in the taskbar - i.e. Is the connect still present? (Best test: ping www.google.com when it happens)
    If the connection remains,but the dialog is popping up:
    Tools->Internet Options->Connection->Never dial a connection.
    Failing that,delete the connection and create a new one as stated above.

    melekalikimaka: it's a DIAL-UP connection..not broadband.

    :o ...I knew that...I was testing you, you passed , well done

  • aha after the modem disconnects I went to "Show All Connections" and another connections flashes into view every few seconds...with a foreign phone number....

    I ran Norton and it found a dialer which I deleted but the problem still occurs with me getting disconnected every 10mins or so.....anybody any advice..? Thanks for all the help so far....

    You still have the dialer, not all security apps will successfuly delete them, commercial programs are often not worth there salt, I speak of Norton and McAfee which are both rubbish. Get spybot SnD and run it, it should delete the program that is reinstalling the dialer, or any other dialers on the system
