    Good morning.

My friend has this mighty computer running on XP and is doing his internet with this foul dial-up modem. He will not consider broadband and this horror keeps dropping the line. Tried the usual tactics - max speed - recent drivere etc. Anyone any ideas.

Stubborn chap will not entertain any talf of broadband , even refuses to accept that his sons pay the bill!

Could be line noise? How often are we talking about? Is he/someone else trying to make phone calls while he's online? (it happens)

Do you have a laptop you could loan him for a night to see if the line drops with that?

I hate working on other peoples PCs, especially difficult people. "Ever since you fixed all of my PC problems for free the colours on my printer aren't as vibrant - what did you do?" etc.
