this probably has happened before, but I can't find it on the thread list and searching is disabled, so here it is. who do you think is better, Homer Simpson or Peter Griffin?

when I started watching Family Guy I thought Peter was good, but that nothing could pass Homer in terms of humour, however now that I have watched more Family Guy and am now a big fan, I see how wrong I was.

what really makes Peter great, I think anyway, is those flashbacks, or refrences they do, I mean one of the greats is him on the airplane staring at the door with the lever and the warning "do not pull", oh God, classic! and the fact that Peter had so many 'famous' relatives.

however Homer is not without his charm. one of my favourite quotes from him was when he finds €20 while looking for a peanut "oooh, $20, but I wanted a peanut" (Homer's thoughts)"but $20 can buy many peanuts" "explain how!", classic!

so who do you think takes the throne? Homer or Peter?

BTW I love Family Guy and Peter but it's not as good as the Simpsons.

This thread may as well be called Family Guy Vrs Simpsons.

I love both but Homer has to get the verdict for the longevity factor

I think Peter is beter than homer, even in his prime. It is true that The simpsons paved the way for animated comedy, they should get credit for that...but for pure funniness and how much the characters make me laugh, Peter wins by miles.

Just because they are similar and Homer came first doesn't mean Homer is better. In terms of laughs Peter is ahead in my opinion.

I agree...even if the simpsons did pave the way for other animated shows,Family guy has still managed to be funnier and Peter is just better. Especially since new simpsons have just degraded what old homer used to be.

Peter has still managed to be as annoying in only three short seasons, remember the hurt shin scene anyone, thats where family guy falls down, it's very rare, but sometimes they'll go for a more shall we say american type of humour (think the mole joke from goldmember) and it really doesn't work. to be fair the treehouse of horror attack of the clones in the simpsons was kinda true, peter is like a cheap copy of homer, early homer was fantastic, and the simpsons don't forget excelled when they went into their diverse array of characters, this was built on by family guy, a funny mayor in the simpsons became a funny celebrity mayor in family guy.
at the end of the day the simpsons season 1-6 is better than family guy but the homer they have now is crap compared to peter griffin.

Family guys strongest point is that it doesn't have the annoying family getting in the way.

in the simpsons, barts a little twerp, lisa is an opinionated little so and so and marge is always the voice of the moral of the story,
at least in family guy all the family are equally funny and though lois does have a tendency to be the conscience of the family she can be as bad as peter sometime plus stewie and brian are hilarious and whenchris gets going he's a howl, plus megs job is to be the butt of the joke, not like pain in the ass lisa

I think we need to go down memory lane with Homer
just to remember how tuff Homer really is

First of all Homer is very Tuff
He is charged with radiation
He has survived falling off mountains
He has been in more then one Major Street fight
He has took a severe beating in the ring
He is in to martial arts
He has been made in to a Frankenstein monster
and made human again
He a has a Quick temper with very little morrows
since he has no problems with straggling Bart
He is virtually Fire proof
He has been shot more then once
and stilled lived.
Has went to Hell and came back

Homer Simpson in his heyday is far better than what Peter Griffin ever was. I find that Family Guy is far too slapstick to have any lasting appeal.

Now, I do concur with those above saying that The Simpsons in recent years is drivel - it barely even raises a smile anymore, but the Simpsons at its best is a long way past the best Family Guy.

I dunno.....i never found meg or chris to be that funny (chris in particular really annoys me sometimes)....i think bart and lisa are way better....
Also,as great as peter is,you just cant beat homer....i think stewie is easily the best character in family guy btw,but even he cant out-funny homer!!

chris and meg are so annoying you can stand lisa's annoying-ness but not chris'.

Chris, imo, is way funnier than Bart. Its just my opinion though.

Meg isnt funny in herself, but the way the family takes the piss out of her is brilliant.
