Sky + to have or not to have ...

    Hi ,

I am about to install Sky and and pondering on if I should get Sky + in ?
At €15 / month (€180 euros a year) is it worth it ?

Also , at the end of the 12 month contract if I decide to not subscribe to sky and just go for the FTA channels , is there any disadvantage of having the sky + box as opposed to a normal sky box?

Does anybody have prices / sources for PVR's which have a EPG ?
Do you need a Quad output LNB for a PVR ?

    Thanks in advance ...

    Welcome along :)

    Sky+, imho, is great. :)

If you get sports/movies or both, you don't have to pay the €15 per month.

In reality if you give up the subscription after 12 months, there is no real difference between the two boxes, as you wont be able to record on a Sky+ box that no longer has a sub.

For the last part of your post, I open that one to the floor.. :)

    Yes, I love Sky+.

One minor disadvantage to a Sky+ box over a regular Sky box is in the autoview feature.

Autoview allows you to choose programmes to be viewed, actually changing channel on the Sky box when the time comes. Some VCRs can even use this signal to trigger a recording session and then stop the session when the programme ends. I used to use this all the time before I got Sky+.

Now if your Sky+ is active you record to the hard drive so no problem, but if you don't have an active Sky+ subscription then as far as I know there's no autoview feature (because the logic is you don't need it)...

So recording to VCR or other PVR is therefore more difficult.

But a working Sky+ is a revolution in TV viewing.

    Ix.
