Trying to upgrade my w2k install to XP SP2. All looked like it was going right, then after a few restarts its just blue screening just before windows kicks in and restarting itself constantly. I booted in safemode and ran msconfig to reduce all the start up programs to see what would happen. but its still the same. bit of a generic error i know, but anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks

when are the bluescreens happening? is it as soon as you boot?

try running regclean in safemode (google for 'regclean 4.1a') it can quite often fix registry errors that lead to bluecreens.

there's other apps that will do similar, but you can't beat M$ for fixing their own problems! regclean has been around sicne the win95 days, so it's a tried and trusted app for fixing registry problems.

failing that, the only certain way would be a fresh install of xp sp2 onto a seperate partition, and copy all your stuff across or wiping the whole disk and starting from scratch, but you might want to try a backup before you do that, so you don't lose anything.

Sounds like a driver or app is not SP2 compliant
Best to go with a fresh install (upgrades between os versions are always dodgey)
Download all the latest drivers for your machine beforehand.
    Hope this helps

Boot to the Windows Recovery Console via the XP disc. Type CHKDSK. See if that helps.
