and what's the cheapest way to transport it internationally?
Same for a fridge - the half-size ones with a tiny freezer compartment on top.

I need to send the above two items, plus some cardboard boxes (any idea how much a 1m³ box full of books weighs?) from Holland to France, and need the approximate weights for a quote.

Wahing machines way roughly the same as a bag of fertlizer i feel when i lift them, thats 50kg, you need two people to lift them because of there size. If you drive a hatchback than you probably get it in the back with the seats down. Dryers, freezers and fridges way a good bit less but use two people to lift them to get them in and out it makes life way easier.
What i mean is if your going there yourself throw them into the back of a car.

A washing machine is very heavy, due to it having a big concrete block in the bottom to stop it from jumping all over the place on a fast spin. A fridge isn't very heavy at all, though it's not feather light.

You're talking about 100kg for the washing machine (around 15.5 stone).

TBH, it may be cheaper to investigate renting a van for a day or two and driving it there. :D

are you getting shipping, or dhl or post or something? when I moved back I got stuff shipped via a shipping company - they didn't worry about weight, it was volume.
A washing machine is heavy - 2 ppl lift jobbie, about 60 kg probably - a fridge about 20 kg probably. books - way heavier than they look!
good luck! when you off on your travels?

I used http://www.halesfreight.com/ last year to deliver a new 135kg range cooker from Liverpool to dublin for me. I think it cost about €230 inc vat. I got it delivered to their liverpool depot for free from the manafucturer. I used a friends van to collect it from Northwall. (saved about a grand on the irish retail price by the way)

Took from a bosch website. It was a particularly expensive one pictured though, so maybe it's particularly heavy too.

why not just sell your washing machine in france and buy one in holland ?

Cheers for all the replies :)

Dmitri - I think you must be he-man, as I'm pretty sure 100kg is not an overestimation, those concrete slabs inside are seriously heavy.
I know I can lift someone my own size more easily than the machine (in that I can't really lift either, but it'd be closer with the human).
The WM might fit in the Fiat Panda, but then none of our clothes, smaller electrical goods or pets would fit!

I think I'll put <100kg and washing machine in brackets.
20kg sounds a little on the light side for a fridge, but then again, it is full of beer at the moment :)

ken - can you remember the name of the company you used, if they were local to Eindhoven and how much they charged per m³?
I think only the train transporters worry about the weight.
We're leaving Holland on the 25th November and flying out from Madrid on the 12th December, provided I can find some means of getting to Madrid for less than two grand! Just got the vaccinations this morning, four at once. Not bad so far, but I probably won't be lifting any washing machines today.
    And yourselves?

pontovic - I'm considering it, but doubt I'd get much money for the washing machine (the locals are not known for paying over the odds ;)) and the freezer door of the fridge is busted. The question is whether or not the transport cost is more than the difference between the resale value and the purchase of a new one.

full forward - that sounds fairly reasonable, and about the combined weight/size of the two machines.

seamus - the problem with van rental is that it's not possible to rent a van in Holland and leave it back in France - one company allows it, but at a surcharge of €1 per km, which would be well over a grand. We've tried to ask family members in France to rent a van there, drive up and bring the stuff down, but no luck - they're all off my christmas card list! :D

Right, now to get some quotes...

    hey guys,
I know a lot of transport companies will ship by the pallet for a set price. E.g. Irl to UK is €80 when my brother in law checked. So i guess you can get a better bargain if you can fit everything on a pallet, wrap it with pallet wrap and ship her off.

    best of luck

    €80 sounds mad cheap.
I got a quote for €445 for the two machines, a bed, and 4-5 large boxes of stuff. I reckon it's a little steep, but probably won't get much cheaper.

I think it was Beverly Smith or something like that - work use them, and organised it (and paid for it!). No idea of price. THink there may have been a mimimum of 100ft3 or something. So I filled up the gaps with crates of beer!
We travel on 16 January! can't wait. We're learning Mandarin as well! :)
