Former Dublin midfielder Paul Bealin has been backed to bag some silverware for Wexford next season.

The 1995 All-Ireland winner was confirmed as the new Wexford senior footballer manager at last night's County Board meeting for what will be his first venture into inter-county management.

The 37-year-old Bealin, who guided Ballyboden St Enda's to their only Dublin SFC title in 1996 as player-manager, succeeds Pat Roe who stepped down after this year's championship.

In 2005, Roe went close to winning the Model County's first senior football title since their Leinster SFC success in 1945. Their hopes of National League glory were dashed by Armagh at the final hurdle in May, while Dublin came from behind to knock them out of the provincial championship, winning by 1-17 to 2-10 in June's semi-final.

Bealin's latest management role saw him lead Mullahoran to this year's Cavan final where they lost to Cavan Gaels. He beat his former Dublin team-mate Charlie Redmond and ex-Louth boss Paddy Clarke to secure the Model position.

I am glad that the position has been filled realtively quickly! Although I would have like someone with some more experience but he seems to have a good record in the club game and won things as a player!

Hopefully he will take a look at all the players from a neutral prespective and they will all have a clean slate, so the players that need to be dropped are dropped and the players that deserve a place get it!

What do the Dubs and Cavan people think fo him as they would probably know the most about him!

he was a quality footballer for many years with us and he helped transform ballyboden into a quality team when he took them over.

He's an entusiatic lad and generally cheerful so training should be interesting for the wexford boys and if his enthusiasm rubs off on them they will be in for a good season

You mean another ;) Well teh last few seasons in what has gone before it! I am hoping that Wexford can make the Leinster final for the first time since the 40's at least (Not even in my fathers lifetime)!

he's an excellent trainer/manager. the club he was over in cavan, Mullahoran were very unlucky not to have won a county title during his 2 year reign losing to cavan gaels in the final both years by a few points. he made them more competitive than they should have been. i'm not from cavan but i saw them play on 4 occassions this year including the final and saw them play a few times lst year (my brother plays with a club in the county). i know their club scene very well and by all means he took a group of jaded players and revitalised and remotivated them. the cavan gaels team that beat them in the final are back boned by a successfull underage group of players as they have won 7 minor championships in a row. the senior team can boast in any one year 7 or 8 cavan senior panelist. Mullahoran had only 1 this year, paul brady, who was suspended for the entire championship after getting sent off against tyrone in the championship this year. and despite the fact that man for man the gaels were clearly stronger mullahoran were the better team. it would be an achievement to do this once, but to be able to repeat it two years in a row is a special achievement. i'm not about to back wexford to win leinster but i will say that come the championship they'll be a better and harder team to beat than last year. that was probably the hall mark of mullahoran over the last few years, they were near imposible to put away. they won most of their matches by no more than 1 or 2 points. with talent like mattie forde, bealin will have some serious fire power. he never had that at mullahoran. watch this space... you have been warned!

He supposedly played for about 20 minutes for Mullahoran against Gowna in the Cavan Senior Championship this year. So he's still got the hunger to win.

I heard that Mullahoran really put it up to the Gaels in the final, nearly beating them. That is an achievement in itself.

Okay I like the sound of that! Toughness is one thing we lack, I don't mean physically, but mentally to close out tight games or to come from behind and win!

Cavan Gaels have ruled Cavan football for years, even at underage level, with nearly half the county panel on the current team so Bealin's achievement of leading Mullahoran to the final was notable.
