i was watching 20/40nl cash game when this happened: utg raises to $80 which is called by player 4, player 5 reraises to 310 then the button reraises all in for 1500. first few fold and player 5 calls.

i expected the button to throw over kk or aa but he shows ak and is up against jj. am i wrong in thinking the button is absolute donkey, would any of bet 1500 when ur at best 50:50

Yes, I would. It's a bad call by player 5 unless he knows the button's play quite well. It doesn't matter that it's $1500 or $1.50.

Bad play by both of them.

Play is perfectly fine if it is read based and influenced by one players knowledge of another's play.

If the read was good enough yeah, but generally it's a bad idea to reraise a reraise all in with AK and the vast majority of the time you'll only be called by AA/KK/QQ/JJ. The JJ call isn't much better, but at least he had good odds if he was up against overcards, which lucky for him was the case in this hand.

Edit: After thinking a bit more about it, I think the AK all in is just bad play full stop.

yeah i think pretty bad play all around. Ak went all having seen a raise of 4BB which was then re raised 4 times before it got to him. V strong play.. He has got to think AA or KK is a possibility. IF he could rule out AA KK then all in with the folding equity and the extra money in the pot then it would be an OK re raise all in. But in this case with the raising before him aa or KK seem quite likely.

The actual amount doesn't really matter. Clearly they have the bankroll big enough so that they can take a hit such as that.

I think they both played the hands terribly, although we dont know their background. They could know each other well, and therefore be comfortable making these plays..... After all JJ isin't too far ahead of AK is it.
