    Hi,

My hard disk crashed over the weekend. When I boot up it just starts clicking.

I have no recent backups and I have a couple of important directories I want to recover.

There is this irish crowd http://www.datarecovery.ie that do data recovery.

Has anybody on boards used these guys or has anybody any recommendations

    Thanks

ive always sent my stuff like that to the UK TBH.

Be forwarned that it is going to cost somthing in the range of four figures. You can try the old freezer trick, but its not always a good idea if the files are very important.

Try www.cbltech.co.uk, they do a free inspection, just pay for shipping two and from.

datarecovery.ie will diagnose your drive for free.
Also, if they work on it and they don't retrieve data, then your not charged.

You will be looking at paying at least 700 euro.

I know the feeling, mine just died while I was copying files onto it over the network. It just clicked and then the drive motor started winding up, then it clicked again, this just kept repeating so I shut it off. This 30G 7200 drive failed a SMART test saying the Drive Protection System failed, but it was working reliable since I got for nothing in 2002. I will have to buy a new one now
