i have a ati radeon 9800pro. this is a piece of hadware that encodes the video and converts it mpeg, avi etc. i used a scart lead with the aid of av leads. the red, white, and black ones. i connected the dvd player to this device and could get both audio and video to come through but with the video recorded hooked up i dont get either!

I could be wrong but I am sure that the ATI 9800 Pro only has a TV out and no TV/video in. You may need to get a video capture card like ATI All-in-wonder or a Hauppauge wintv or something similar.

It seems that the Xpert DVD maker is a hardware video capture device for all those confused about the question. I haven't used it but I have a similar USB capture device.

For capturing the audio, connect the audio leads to the line-in on your soundcard and also make sure that Line-in is selected in the audio control panel for both recording and playback, else you won't hear anything.

As for video, I never had much of a problem except to make sure you select PAL and not NTSC in the capture device properties.

Are you using the SCART connector to connect the video to the device? If so, make sure your using the output SCART socket and not the input one. Most Videos have two and a lot of DVD players only have one. If you have it working from a DVD player, there's no reason why it shouldn't work on your video, unless your video is borked.

i tired on two video recorders at home and it wont work on either of them! i did use a scart connector witht the av leads to connect it to the video recorder. when i connected it to the dvd player i didnt need the scart connector and connected it directly to it with just the av leads!

are you trying to record from a vhs to your pc?

    if so
you might want to check your videos scart capapbilities,
can you go from video players scart to the tv?
i have two video recorders[old] with scart and neither of them seem to ouput via scart
i have a third [fairly new] that has an input scart and an output scart
