    Hi all,

I installed my broadband from UTV a few days ago and since then the computer has been running really slow. Bringing up pages in IE is so slow its unbelievable. Pages keep timing out , but the connection speed isnt the problem , as when I get access to a page I can download at 50k/sec.

Im not out of memory / HDD space as I have checked the performance settings... so im at a loss.

    any ideas ?

    Jon

    - also Im virus free and have no spyware - as I have run my latest release symantic and lavasoft spyware over the whole system.

Your computer's running slow, or your connection is running slow?

Sounds like your connection; try adding the proxy settings, here.

Or if they're in already, try disabling them.

you don't say what OS you have
if it's win98 / winME check your system resources immediately after startup
    (r-click my comp > props > performance)
using usb free res nee3ds to be around 80% or higher

what are other non-internet apps like?
slow as well? restart pc (disconnect modem from pc first)
if apps still slow then it's pc - if not then usb / connection issue

try unchecking "automatically detect settings" in IE if checked
    > tools > internet options > connections tab > LAN settings

The following are answers to the above :

1.) im using a USB modem. (the pants that is provided with UTV)

2.) Computer is running slow - the connection speed is fine as I can download at 50k / sec. Nothing is running in the background that will be using the bandwidth. Having said that programs that are non internet related such as word etc are running fine. I think the problem lies in IE (which is version 6)

3.) The OS is WINXP SP2

    - will try the suggestions and get back - thanks for the help.
