What is a Memory Card Reader in relation to buying a digital camera?

Also in terms of Brands. Would the rule of thumb that a person is better off buying a kodak/canon before a sony apply when buying digital cameras?

A memory card reader just allows you to take the card from your camera and place it in the reader so your computer can access it. It is not necessary to have one. If you do want one though they are selling some in Aldi at the moment for 15 euro. As regards a camera if its just a point and shoot Id go for a canon

So to load the pics on to your harddrive u need a memory card reader. Anything else?

Any thoughts on the Kodak EasyShare CX7530 versus
    Sony Cybershot DSC P93 ?

If it's a smart media card reader you're after, I have one you can have for free if you collect it. (Dublin 3 area).
Oops..just noticed you're in the Wesht. Oh go on, if you want it, PM me your address and I'll send it on.
Some newer PCs come with ready built-in card readers, in the various formats - currently on sale Fujitsu_Siemens models for example.

As Fx Meister said above, you don't need one, your camera will be able to connect directly to your comp. A card reader is an optional extra that you can leave permanently connected to your machine.

Sounds like you don't know a whole lot about digital cameras, a salemsan in a shop may exploit this so don't let him sell you a card reader, your camera comes with a cable to connect your camera to your PC, as Improv said a card reader is just an optional extra. As for a review of both cameras, go here to see a side by side review of both cameras. They come with a 32mb card so that's one thing you might consider getting extra. 32mb won't hold that many pictures so maybe consider getting another card, a 256mb perhaps.
