obvioulsy i'm fairly new to your forum and i just wanted to see if you guys have come to a reasonable consensus as to who is the best player amoung you guys.

clearly you can't vote for yourself..

i'm asking because it is often quite rare to get feedback as to how other players percieve eachother when they're not doing battle over a big stack of chips at the table...

    any coments welcome

People on these forums play alot of different games. Some play hold'em online for bigger limits than the vast vast majority of the rest of us. Some people make an almost reasonable living playing poker online.

Me and quite a few others play live tournaments in the Fitz exclusively.
And there's a few regulars in the €50 HE/Omaha who regularly make money.

So its hard to say who is best, the more I play with some people, say DeV, the more I *think* I learn about his game, thats not to say I'm going to make money off him though!
Personally if I had to pick someone I'd say Krusty_Clown. BSOP and home game experience of his play and I still never know what the hell he has.

Also check out this thread for a pathetic game of "you suck my cóck and I'll suck yours..."

Very very hard to say really. There are people who's play I admire, there are people who's understanding of the game and the maths I admire, there are people who make a good deal of cash out of it and some who claim to! :)

Since you dont get to see many of your opponents cards its hard to judge their play. I know that some people think I'm a rock for example and yet LaFortezza nearly burst out laughing at the table when a few people started on at me about being a rock! My point being that people perceive other players differently.
There are times when I have made some moronic fookin bet and miracled the others to fold to it and had one of them tap the table and say "nice bet, well played" while I nod my head sagely and think "mate, if you only knew what a moron I am!"

I suppose ultimately the real decider is money. Its the currency of the game and the object in the end is to accumulate it (be it in cash games or chips in tournies to "make the money"). Over time a good player will stand out because they will have wins and will be up. But as Luke also pointed out some of us play for stakes others couldnt afford or wouldnt dream of playing for. Dropping 300 in a night on a cash game would make me annoyed with myself for losing but I've had bigger swings then that! There are student players who could live for a year off of that :) So if I were up 300 for a month would that make me a better player then the student player who is up 200 notes but has been playing for nickels and dimes?

The only way then to do it is to count number of *wins* rather their value. How many tournies has the guy won or been in the final deal at? On this board, actually thats probably me! So I'm the best player eh? Well no, I play in the Fitz practically 5 days a week! I enter at least 5 tournies a week so obviously thats a major advantage over someone like Hyzepher who has a kid and a wife and a job he needs to keep (unlike me on all three counts). In fact I'd say Hyzephers *ratio* of played:won is a fair bit better then mine. ("won" being, got more money from it then paid into it).

There are players who's play I respect, players I'd rather not see sit down on my table or I'll mark with a "dont get involved with unless you have the goods" mental sticky-note. I dont think I could pick a single player and say "him, he's the best of us". Maybe a top-5 but even then it would be drawn from say 15 players of reasonably equal calibre.

    DeV.

ps: Lafortezza is crap. That much is for certain.

Luke, its funny to look back on that thread now. I know some of my top 5 would be the same and some different.
